Senior Systems Engineer (Haverhill, Massachusetts). Our client, a leading developer and manufacturer of sophisticated vacuum products, exhaust management systems and related value-added services, is currently hiring a Senior Systems Engineer to work alongside passion, expertise, and with the latest technology to transform industries such as electronics, medical research, renewable energy and more. The Role: As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will define new products, design system-level solutions, and implement architectures for Edwards' CTI and Polycold product lines. Collaborating with customers, product marketing, and application engineering, you will translate application requirements into innovative products. You will be technical leader of multi-disciplinary teams on complex NPI projects, managing significant technical risks. Recognized as a technical expert, you will communicate complex ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences, anticipate roadblocks, and address them with data-driven reasoning. Main Responsibilities: Define system specifications based on application requirements, competitive benchmarking, and cost analysis. Chair architecture brainstorming sessions with cross-functional engineering teams to down select and finalize product/system architecture. Develop requirements documentation, system diagrams, and models as part of system engineering deliverables to ensure traceability of requirements and technical decisions. Guide and influence technical teams in making design decisions, especially in cases of technical ambiguity, specification conflicts, lack of data, or new market requirements. Coordinate testing plans between validation and verification testing. Ensure testing of customer usage cases to evaluate and verify system performance. Lead cross-functional engineering reviews (Design reviews, Test reviews etc.) to ensure adherence and alignment to product requirements (technical, regulatory, cost etc.) per Edwards Vacuum's product development process. Communicate necessary changes to adjust design direction. Lead/chair cross-functional FMEA sessions to ensure all technical risks are captured, documented and mitigations identified as appropriate. Support delivery of all technical deliverables including electrical, mechanical and firmware designs along with their expected completion timelines. Work closely with technologists to gauge technological maturity and feasibility of new technologies for reduction-to-practice in new products. Stay current on technical & regulatory advances in mixed refrigerants, helium refrigeration, general cryogenics and potentially represent Edwards in industry associations and trade groups. Help author technical literature and related technical support material for new refrigeration & vacuum technologies/products. Explore and leverage technologies from third parties and other companies that are a part of the larger Edwards / Atlas Copco network. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics or equivalent with 7+ years of industry experience. or Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics or equivalent with 4+ years of industry experience. Have a strong background in one or more of the following: Thermodynamic systems, Heat transfer, Fluid dynamics, controls and instrumentation and /or Industrial automation. Demonstrate the ability to work in matrixed teams and communicate complex ideas to non-technical stakeholders Work well in cross-functional teams and build consensus across engineering groups. Possess strong analytical, creative problem-solving, critical thinking, and organizational skills. Working knowledge of 2D and 3D finite element modeling techniques to support mechanical and thermal analysis Knowledge of statistical methods such as hypothesis testing, DOE, and SPC is highly desirable Preferred: It's a bonus if you: Are familiar with engineering standards and regulations (e.g., SEMI, ASHRAE, UL, CE, PED, ASME). Are proficient with process/system simulation tools (e.g., Aspen, ChemCAD). Have experience with system modeling tools (e.g., MATLAB, Simulink, Modelica). Have experience using requirements management tools (e.g., Jama or similar). Are familiar with industry-standard communication protocols.
