Summary of Responsibilities:  

The Tax Compliance Collections Specialist is responsible for managing and resolving delinquent tax accounts for the State of Arizona and participating counties/cities. This role involves reviewing taxpayer accounts, contacting individuals/businesses to collect outstanding liabilities, performing field visits, educating taxpayers on compliance requirements, and documenting all collection activities. Success in this role requires strong communication skills, ethical judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to work in fast-paced, high-volume environments. 

Responsibilities:  

  • Review assigned taxpayer accounts to determine outstanding liabilities and compliance status. 

  • Contact taxpayers via phone to negotiate payment arrangements and resolve delinquent accounts. 

  • Conduct field visits to residences, workplaces, and business locations to complete collection actions. 

  • Educate taxpayers on regulations, online tools, filing requirements, and steps to maintain compliance. 

  • Verify and update taxpayer information across multiple digital systems in real time. 

  • Document all interactions, findings, and actions accurately and thoroughly. 

  • Evaluate financial statements and supporting documents to determine ability to pay. 

  • Participate in asset seizure activities, including identifying lien property, securing assets, and assisting with public auction preparation. 

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to team initiatives. 

  • Meet performance goals, maintain professionalism, and ensure alignment with state compliance policies. 

Must-haves:  

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent. 

  • At least 1 year each in two prior fast-paced call center roles (finance, banking, insurance, telecom preferred). 

  • Ability to multitask, stay organized, and manage a high volume of accounts. 

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. 

  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Workspace. 

  • Solid basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division). 

Skills Desired/Preferred:  

  • Associate degree or higher. 

  • Spanish speaking or multilingual abilities. 

  • Experience participating in process improvement or workflow enhancement activities. 

  • Knowledge of tax systems, finance, or compliance-related environments. 

  • Prior experience with investigative or field-based casework.
