Description

U.S. Payroll Specialist
Location: Edmonton, Calgary, North York, Chatham
Compensation:  $32.00 - $37.00/hr
Type: Temporary, 1-year contract (possibility of extension)


Are you a seasoned payroll expert with significant US payroll experience? We are seeking a Payroll Specialist to lead, support, and deliver comprehensive payroll services and projects within a complex, multi-state environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the subject matter expert (SME) for payroll and time management on initiatives such as acquisitions, reorganizations, and system updates (including Workday).
  • Investigate and resolve complex US payroll issues while providing mentorship to team members.
  • Analyze and interpret tax laws, and regulations, ensuring payroll compliance for all US locations.
  • Oversee payroll transactions related to mergers, acquisitions, and organizational changes and assess impacts on payroll technology.
  • Manage communication and relationships with tax agencies (state, federal, WCB, SUI) and third-party providers (ADP).
  • Set up tax and WCB accounts and handle complex payroll scenarios, including cross-border payroll, expat tax, relocation, and special payments (e.g., bonuses, stock options).
  • Maintain the highest levels of confidentiality and privacy in all payroll processes.

Qualifications:
  • University degree in business or related technical diploma.
  • 6+ years of progressive payroll experience in multi-state, union, and non-union environments.
  • Current US CPP or FPC designation required.
  • Strong expertise with Workday US payroll and experience with third-party providers (ADP preferred).
  • Advanced understanding of compliance, HR requirements, international assignments, and US payroll taxation.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to thrive in a dynamic, diverse workplace.
