Welding Robotics Project Engineer
Salary: $100,000 to $125,000 DOE
Location: Waukesha, WI
Essential Duties & Responsibilities This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time.
• Analyze customer requirements and develop robotic welding solutions that meet performance, quality, and safety goals.
• Select appropriate robotic systems, welding equipment, fixtures, and sensors based on application needs.
• Design and validate welding processes, including weld path programming, torch angles, travel speeds, and weld sequences.
• Conduct feasibility studies, weld trials, and process capability analysis using simulation and hands-on testing.
• Collaborate with project teams on system layout, cycle time estimation, and tooling design.
• Facilitate design reviews with an engineering team to review and refine initial concepts.
• Work with the manufacturing team to ensure a smooth transition from engineering prototype into the build process.
• Work with Sales Engineers, customers, and internal & external resources to gather information and define a solution for the project being proposed.
• Work extensively with vendors to determine the performance, interface, price, and delivery time of components to be purchased for a project.
• Create proposals that are complete and accurate that meet the company's goals for profitability within the time frame allowed.
• Create cost estimates that cover the entire cost of a project including labor, parts made in-house, parts purchased from suppliers, and other associated costs.
• Produce and modify concept and layout drawings, either 2D or 3D, required for the proposal.
• Meet with company management to review proposals prior to delivery to the customer and implement recommended changes.
• Research, studies, and proposes use of new technologies and processes.
• Create and maintain internal databases of reference information from previous projects.
• Modify and update existing proposals.
• Recommend changes in procedures, design, or equipment where necessary.
• Upon receipt of an order, relay all pertinent information to the project team needed to successfully execute the project.
• Participate in design reviews and customer meetings as needed throughout the production of the project.
• Comply with company policy and all quality and safety regulations.
• Other duties or responsibilities as assigned.
Education and/or Experience
• Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Mechanical or another related field
• 10+ years of experience in robotic welding applications in an industrial automation environment.
• Strong knowledge of 3D Modeling software and familiarity with Robot Studio and Robo-Guide.
• Strong knowledge of welding processes, metallurgy, weld testing and quality control
• Experience using or applying various industrial or automation equipment, such as robots, electric motors, servo motors, conveyors, PLC's and related control systems, specialty machines, gearboxes, pneumatics, bearings, etc. to your designs
