At Kraton, we make a Positive Difference, and we are looking for individuals who are also looking to make a difference in their jobs, for our customers and to the world.  We are looking to hire a key member of our R&D team at our Innovation Center located in West Houston.

 

The Senior Scientist will be primarily performing routine scientific work, independently evaluating, selecting and applying standardized scientific procedures and techniques to projects with clear objectives or investigations with limited variables/complex features.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead process research and development programs in polymer chemistry and functionalization
  • Establish lab scale processes that scale to pilot and commercial units. 
  • Apply understanding of rheological measurements and properties to solvent removal processes
  • Deliver process and manufacturing risk assessments for innovation products and projects
  • Support and lead manufacturing test runs
  • Utilize analytical and modeling approaches to solve technical challenges
  • Enhance team capabilities through acquisition and application of new instrumentation, equipment, and tools
  • Works closely with internal/external customers and establish strong relationships to drive innovation projects
  • Participate in the definition of own development needs and technical expertise, business and personal skills
Required Skills
  • Commitment to safe and ethical behavior
  • In depth understanding of organic chemistry and laboratory synthesis techniques
  • Experience with polymer functionalization and characterization
  • Basic understanding of polymer physics and rheology, and application to engineering processes
  • Ability to direct/refine a research study by advancing new ideas and views
  • Ability to collaborate in a team environment and managing projects to timelines
  • Ability to document and report work in written forms
  • Boldly face challenges and take initiative  
Education, Certifications & Licenses
  • PhD Chemist, Polymer Scientist or Chemical Engineer (relevant experience a plus)
