POSITION SUMMARY

The Operations Manager's primary responsibility will be to drive performance in the manufacturing process through continuous improvement to deliver and sustain profitable growth. This position will also be responsible for assisting the Plant Manager in the development of the plant's strategy. This position is also responsible for the Food Safety and Food Quality programs. The operations manager will be responsible for oversight of the manufacturing operations and directly supervise the work of all plant production department Managers. Work closely with the Plant Manager to direct and manage the day-to-day operation of the facility. Coordinate the activities of the manufacturing facilities of the plant to ensure customer orders are received; scheduled, produced, and shipped to safely and effectively utilize plant capacities and optimize manufacturing costs and quality. In the event that this position is not on-site, the plant manager will be responsible for the Food Safety and Food Quality program.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES (essential functions of the job)

Responsibilities include:

  • Manages the daily operations according to established production schedules, work assignments, employee safety, and administration of company policies and procedures. 
  • Coaches his direct reports and supervisors to help cultivate culture.
  • Manages line efficiencies. Works with production manager, maintenance manager, and supervisors on key opportunities for line efficiency improvement by providing trend analysis on key downtime issues and equipment. Facilities a plan to reduce downtime in the operation by holding his team members accountable for results and providing coaching to help resolve root causes versus symptoms.
  • Deliver enhanced supply efficiency and capability by ensuring reliable maintenance and production through analysis of current performance to standards and settings of stretch goals.
  • Develop hourly and salaried employees within the production and maintenance departments by setting performance expectations in goals and behaviors (coaching and mentoring) that support the overall supply chain mandate – reliable supply. 
  • Evaluate performance against goals across a balanced scorecard, coordinating functional department efforts to improve the same.
  • Analyzes financial results to determine successes and gaps, developing strategies to close gaps and enhance cost delivery. 
  • Will lead various projects; Acts as the liaison between Lean improvement personnel and their respective groups. 
  • Develops and leads the implementation of operational initiatives in support of Lean Six Sigma manufacturing (e.g., department utilization improvement, process capability enhancement, customer satisfaction, employee involvement). 
  • Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency. 
  • Sets and communicates standards, deploys resources, and achieves clear and measurable performance expectations for the operation.    
  • Develops the personnel in the department, directs work assignments, evaluates employee performance, and conducts employee discipline in a manner that is consistent with Company, policies and procedures.
  • Communicates, implements, and assures compliance with governmental rules and regulations, as well as, Company plans, programs, policies, and procedures involved with the conduct of a safe, clean, environmentally sound, and efficient operation.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

  • Manage operations team
  • Maintains staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees; maintaining a safe, secure, and legal work environment; developing personal growth opportunities.
  • Communicates job expectations; planning, monitoring, and assessing job results; coaching, and counseling employees; developing, coordinating, and enforcing systems, procedures, and productivity standards.
  • Establishes strategic goals; identifying and evaluating trends; choosing a course of action; defining objectives; evaluating outcomes.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

 

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or technical degree
  • Minimum of 10 years of manufacturing experience in technical, maintenance, or production departments.

  • Must be able to respond to off-hour emergencies.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, and night shifts, and respond to callouts on a non-routine basis.

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS

This position requires sufficient physical ability to work in a production setting.

 

FREQUENT:  Ability to talk and hear; ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, stoop, bend, and/or crouch; push/pull; lift up to 50 pounds; use of hands and fingers to operate machinery/equipment and all manual and electronic equipment in the area of responsibility.  Exposure to wet and humid conditions and fluctuations in ambient temperature (seasonal).

 

OCCASIONAL:  Squatting, kneeling, ability to reach above and at shoulder height. Ability to wear a dust mask, and perform Confined Entry using LOTO program.  Exposure to toxic and corrosive chemicals.

 

VISION:  Ability to use close and distance vision, as well as color and peripheral vision with or without correction.  Must be able to visually detect obstacles and potential dangers in a fast-paced production environment involving high-speed equipment and powered industrial lift equipment.

 

HEARING:  Ability to hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.  Exposure to noise levels from pumps, machinery, forklift traffic, bottle lines, and exhaust fans.
