Job SummaryReporting directly to the Controller, the Senior Manager, Finance will be responsible for the strategic financial planning, operational oversight, and leadership to support the company's goals while adhering to legislative requirements and best practices.
While providing management, administration, and control of the company's financial operations. Manage the planning, development, and implementation of effective financial accounting strategies, policies, and procedures. Responsible for the preparation, maintenance, and reporting of internal and external financial records and analyses. Manage the development and maintenance of financial information and control systems including general ledger, budgeting, cost allocation, and other subsystems.
As a Senior Manager, Finance, your main responsibilities will include (but not limited to):- Oversee day-to-day financial operations including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, plus financial accounting and reporting.
- Responsible for the preparation, maintenance, and reporting of internal and external financial records and analyses.
- Manage the development and maintenance of financial information and control systems including general ledger, budgeting, cost allocation, and other subsystems.
- Responsible for supporting corporate controls requirements, including the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.
- Assist with internal audits across the organization, as necessary
- Develop and submit yearly direct and indirect rate packages to PSPC and support audits as required
- Provide oversight for the preparation of daily, monthly, annual, and other periodic financial statements and tax reports.
- Ensure that external document submissions and filings are accurate and timely.
- Ensure that accounting records and reports are compliant with GAAP and government regulations.
- May serve as a liaison between the company and external auditors and regulatory authorities.
- Complete reports and analyses of departmental and area operations as requested by senior management.
- Develop and execute financial strategies, policies, and procedures to support the organizational operational goals.
- Deliver management reporting and analysis including commentary on financial performance against annual financial budget and prior year results.
- Oversee the preparation and coordination of audited financial statements, ensuring accuracy, compliance with accounting standards, and timely completion of audits.
- Serve as a key finance partner to senior leadership, providing financial insights to inform strategic decisions.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory, legal, and tax requirements, including audits, tax filings, and corporate governance.
- Implement and leverage financial management practices and tools to optimize business operations.
- Oversee the continuous improvement processes while also enforcing adherence and the application of tailoring processes.
- Provide leadership and guidance for the Finance team members while managing performance and fostering their individual professional growth.
- Manage the recruitment, orientation, and training of new Finance staff.
What you require to be successful in the role:
- Possession of bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting or related field from a recognized post‑secondary institution or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- A master's degree is considered an asset
- Thorough knowledge of financial and accounting practices and procedures. CPA designation is considered an asset but not required.
- Prior experience with internal controls specifically Sarbanes Oxley Act (SOX)
- Demonstrated knowledge of indirect rates in manufacturing or defense contract environment
- CPA designation with a minimum of ten (10) years or progressive financial experience including supervisory responsibilities
- Effective leadership and management skills particularly with influence management and conflict resolution
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and drive strategic decisions.
