Overview
The Database Engineering team is looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to drive our customer experience strategy forward by consistently innovating and problem-solving. The ideal candidate is passionate about the customer experience journey, highly motivated, intellectually curious, analytical, and possesses an entrepreneurial mindset

Role
Key Responsibilities
• Design and implement Azure-based database solutions using services such as Azure SQL Database, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure PostgreSQL, Azure Cache for Redis, and Azure Data Factory.
• Optimize database performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Implement and manage backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
• Monitor and troubleshoot database issues, ensuring high availability and data integrity.
• Automate database deployments and updates using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform or Bicep.
• Collaborate with development teams to support data modelling, schema design, and query optimization.
• Ensure compliance with data governance, security, and privacy standards.
• Maintain documentation and provide knowledge sharing across teams.

All About You
Required Skills & Experience
• Proven experience with Azure database services (e.g., Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, PostgreSQL).
• Strong proficiency in T-SQL, PL/pgSQL, or equivalent.
• Experience with performance tuning and query optimization.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices for database deployments.
• Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Bicep, ARM templates).
• Understanding of data security, encryption, and compliance (e.g., GDPR).
• Experience with monitoring tools (e.g., Azure Monitor, Log Analytics).
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
• Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or equivalent.
• Experience with hybrid cloud or multi-cloud environments.
• Familiarity with data warehousing and ETL processes.
• Experience with scripting languages (PowerShell, Python).

In line with Mastercard's total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role. The base salary offered may vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Mastercard benefits for full time (and certain part time) employees generally include: insurance (including medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, disability, life insurance); flexible spending account and health savings account; paid leaves (including 16 weeks of new parent leave and up to 20 days of bereavement leave); 80 hours of Paid Sick and Safe Time, 25 days of vacation time and 5 personal days, pro-rated based on date of hire; 10 annual paid U.S. observed holidays; 401k with a best-in-class company match; deferred compensation for eligible roles; fitness reimbursement or on-site fitness facilities; eligibility for tuition reimbursement; and many more.
