Title and Summary
Senior Specialist, Analytics & Metrics Overview:Mastercard is seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Senior Data Quality Analyst to support the delivery of high-quality merchant data used across key product lines. Reporting to the Manager, Data Quality, this role plays a critical part in analyzing, validating, cleansing, and enriching Mastercard's merchant data to ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliability at scale.
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys solving data problems, identifying patterns, optimizing workflows, and working closely with engineering and product teams to improve merchant intelligence systems.
What you will do:
Data Quality Operations
• Perform detailed analysis of merchant data to identify anomalies, inconsistencies, duplicates, or gaps.
• Execute, create and enhance cleansing workflows, apply business rules, and create enriched datasets for product consumption.
• Investigate and resolve data defects by tracing issues through ingestion pipelines and downstream transformations.
• Validate data against defined quality standards and acceptance criteria established by the team and Business Stakeholders.
Automation & Workflow Optimization
• Support automation of manual data quality checks using SQL, Python, and Snowflake.
• Collaborate with Data Engineering to build repeatable validation pipelines, rule engines, and automated scripts.
• Develop monitoring dashboards and alerts to proactively detect emerging data quality issues.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Work closely with Data Engineering, Data Science, Product, and Client-facing teams to diagnose and fix data quality issues.
• Provide analytical insights to support merchant clustering, matching, and cleansing initiatives.
• Participate in reviews of new features, data model changes, and ingestion upgrades to ensure quality requirements are met.
Documentation & Governance
• Maintain clear and comprehensive documentation of data rules, workflows, exceptions, and known data behaviors.
• Help define, refine, and enforce data quality standards, best practices, and procedural guidelines.
• Contribute to metadata, lineage, and QA rule mapping for enhanced transparency and auditability.
All About You:
• Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Analytics, Computer Science, Statistics, or equivalent field.
• Experience in data quality, data analysis, or data operations roles.
• Strong expertise in SQL (Snowflake preferred) and experience analyzing large datasets.
• Solid experience with Python for data manipulation, automation, or scripting.
• Strong analytical thinking with the ability to identify patterns, root causes, and recommended solutions.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to summarize complex data issues clearly.
What sets you apart:
• Experience working with merchant, payments, or financial data is a strong advantage.
• Familiarity with AI/LLM-driven workflows for cleansing, matching, or enrichment.
• Experience working with git, DBT, Airflow, or other modern data stack tools.
• Understanding of entity resolution, clustering, string matching, or fuzzy logic techniques.
• Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Looker, Tableau, Power BI) for monitoring dashboards.
