About the Position
The Mat-Su Borough School District is seeking an instructor for a single-course hybrid teaching position at the Mat-Su Hybrid Learning Academy (MSHLA). This is not a full-time position but an additional teaching assignment designed to expand opportunities for students in a hybrid homeschool environment. Courses are offered only if at least 15 students are enrolled.
Course Delivery Model: Hybrid classes at the Academy combine in-person learning and online coursework.
In-Person Requirement:
- Each course must include a minimum of 30 hours of in-person instruction per semester.
- Teachers have flexibility in how these hours are scheduled. Options include:
- An intensive model (e.g., two full weeks of daily meetings)
- A spread-out model (e.g., meeting once a week or every other week)
- A blended approach (e.g., longer sessions combined with shorter check-ins)
At-Home Component:
- Between in-person meetings, students continue their learning independently. Coursework may include:
- Online activities via Google Classroom or Canvas
- Teacher-created assignments
- Traditional paper-and-pencil work
- This structure allows students to practice, reflect, and prepare for the next in-person session while keeping consistent progress.
Flexibility & Creativity:
- Teachers have freedom to design a schedule and format that best fit the subject matter and their teaching style.
- Examples:
- A science course might emphasize in-person labs paired with online reading and reflection.
- A literature course might center on seminar-style discussions combined with at-home reading and writing.

- Provide a minimum of 30 hours of in-person teaching per semester at Mat-Su Central School.
- Develop and manage online coursework through an LMS.

- Maintain regular communication with students, parents, and school leadership.
- Valid Alaska Teaching Certificate in the appropriate subject area.
- Experience or familiarity with online teaching platforms (Google Classroom, Canvas).
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with parents and students.
- Commitment to the hybrid learning model of instruction.
