Description:  1.0 FTE Intensive Resource/Resource (Special Education Teacher)

Site specific information: Intensive Resource/Resource (Special Education Teacher)

Job Summary: To implement appropriate individualized education plans as developed by the Child Study Team, advocate for handicapped students, provide quality services to individuals based upon current research and technology. Assist the Exceptional Child Services Department in meeting audit and compliance standards, and promote positive attitudes about and towards Special Education.

Qualifications: Current Type A Alaska certification with endorsement in Special Education and/or Current Type C Alaska certificate with endorsement in a related service area.  5 years of successful teaching experience in special education and/or a related service area preferred.

Essential Duties 1 Participate as a member of IEP Teams 2 Assist and consult with special education teachers regarding strategies, special education interventions, accommodations, and Modifications. 3 Assist the Student Support Services Department in meeting State audit and compliance standards. 4 Assist with the development of procedures regarding assessment of students with disabilities. 5 Assist with transition planning 6 Consult with teachers regarding assistive technology, equipment, and materials. 7 Assist the Student Support Services Department with special education staffing. 8 Assist with special education staff development activities. 9 Consult with special education teachers regarding scheduling coordination of related services. 10 Act as interagency liaisons. 11 Provide mentor support for special education teachers. 12 Assist with the development of programs designed to meet the needs of students with disabilities. 13 Assist the Student Support Services Department in the development of district wide policies and procedures. 14 Assist the Student Support Services Department with the Extended School Year program. 15 Attend professional development workshops and conferences in order to continue to share knowledge of current best practices with instructional staff. 16 Other duties as assigned by Student Support Services.

Physical Requirements: LIGHT WORK: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligable amount of force constantly to move objects.  If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.
