General Summary of Position
Under the direction of the VP Operations, the AVP Service Line Operations is responsible for the development, operational oversight, and management of MedStar Medical Group physician practices across all assigned service sites. This position has operational responsibility for clinical and business policies, information systems, professional billing, staffing, credentialing, and utilization of general shared services. The incumbent will integrate MedStar branding into each location. The AVP Service Line Operations is accountable for the patient experience and achieving outstanding patient satisfaction scores at each site of service. Builds bridges between and integrates outpatient care with hospital-based services as needed and appropriate. Supports the development of an integrated delivery network of providers and provider institutions across MedStar Health.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Accountable for physician practice management including staff management functions position management policies and procedures performance outcomes professional development hiring and termination. Oversee management of the staff of physician practices and ensure the successful operations within the scope of operational responsibility across all relevant sites of care.
- Accountable to ensure operational excellence for practice performance through knowledgeable skilled passionate management. Assures exceptional patient access to care through implementation of MMG access initiatives. Assures that operations and services are consistently putting the patient at the center and there is appropriate service recovery if we fail the patient. Assures that quality and clinical integration goals are met. Assures management has the skills to effectively hold crucial conversations when performance is unacceptable. Supports practice management and QI about customer service issues. Supports practice management by identifying opportunities for improving care and implementing change.
- Promotes a culture of patient and staff safety and quality and oversees and complies with all regulatory standards.
- Accountable for operational integration within and in partnership with leaders across MMG and hospital entities by fostering a strong sense of One MedStar. Develops and implements processes that permit patients to move seamlessly throughout MedStar with access to care and services. Engages leaders physicians and associates in delivering on key metrics to ensure best-in-class performance. Engages leadership to assure physician/associate workforce planning aligns with MedStar's growth and performance goals.
- Maintains current knowledge of business and market developments and communicates relevant information to the senior leadership teams of MMG as appropriate. Identifies clinical services and geographic markets of growth opportunity for consideration by senior leadership teams.
- Responsible for fiscal management. Drives improvements in efficiency and productivity resulting in operating margin improvements in order to meet market demands. Assures that financial targets for operations are met through standardization of clinical and administrative practices while leveraging economies of scale. Assures accurate documentation of care in order to ensure compliant/maximized coding charge capture and revenue. Participates in the annual operating and capital budget preparation supporting the integration of medical staff and clinical issues into the planning and budgeting process.
- Works collaboratively with clinical service leaders to maintain and expand services as appropriate. Accountable for the implementation of referral relationships for services. Measure and manage referral performance in a consistent disciplined format.
- Develops department goals objectives policies and procedures. Ensures compliance with business unit policies and procedures and governmental and accreditation regulations.
- Selects trains orients and assigns department staff. Develops standards of performance evaluates performance and conducts performance management planning. Initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions. Maintains ongoing communication with subordinates to review programs provide feedback discuss new developments and exchange information.
- Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and business unit in community outreach efforts.
- Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams and maintains effective working relationships with other departments.
Minimal Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Admin Health Care Administration, or related field is required.
- Master's degree in Business Administration, Health Services Administration, or related field is preferred.
Experience
- 5-7 years progressively responsible job-related experience in a physician practice or in hospital administration required.
Licenses and Certifications
- No special certification registration or licensure required
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- High level of problem-solving ability and the ability to exercise independent judgment.
- Business acumen and leadership skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with all levels of leadership, associates, providers, internal departments, and external agencies.
- Working knowledge of various computer applications including Microsoft Office, electronic medical records systems, scheduling systems, and related health care and business applications.

USD $164,444.00 - USD $334,131.00 /Yr.
