Join Our Hospital-Based Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry Team

MedStar Union Memorial Hospital is seeking a full-time Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join our hospital-based Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry Service.

This is an excellent opportunity for a psychiatric provider who enjoys caring for medically complex patients and working collaboratively with medical and surgical teams. In this role, you will provide psychiatric evaluation, treatment, and consultation for patients throughout the hospital while partnering closely with physicians, nurses, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team.

• Full-time, Monday–Friday daytime schedule
• Hospital-based Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry position
• Provide psychiatric consultation for patients admitted to medical and surgical services
• Evaluate and manage psychiatric and behavioral health concerns in medically complex patients
• Collaborate closely with hospitalists, surgeons, nurses, social workers, therapists, and other members of the care team
• Diverse inpatient patient population with a variety of medical, surgical, and psychiatric presentations
• Support from an experienced multidisciplinary team
• Call schedule: one weeknight every two weeks and one weekend every eight weeks
• Weeknight call is telephonic
• Weekend call is primarily telephonic; in-person hospital evaluation is only required if a consult request necessitates it
• No outpatient clinic responsibilities

As a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner on the Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry Service, you will:

• Perform comprehensive psychiatric evaluations of hospitalized patients
• Assess and manage psychiatric symptoms and behavioral health concerns in the setting of acute medical and surgical illness
• Provide consultation regarding diagnosis, medication management, and treatment planning
• Evaluate and treat patients experiencing delirium, agitation, mood symptoms, psychosis, anxiety, and other psychiatric or behavioral concerns
• Develop individualized treatment recommendations in collaboration with the patient's medical team
• Initiate, adjust, and monitor psychiatric medications as clinically appropriate
• Provide recommendations regarding behavioral management and patient safety
• Communicate recommendations clearly with patients, families, and interdisciplinary care teams
• Collaborate with hospital physicians and clinical staff to support coordinated patient care
• Provide follow-up consultations as clinically indicated
• Document evaluations, recommendations, and treatment plans in the electronic medical record

• Master's or doctoral degree in Nursing from an accredited program
• Board certification as aPsychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)
• Current Maryland APRN license or eligibility for Maryland licensure
• Prescriptive authority in Maryland or eligibility to obtain it
• Strong clinical assessment, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Interest or experience in hospital-based psychiatry, Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry, or medically complex patient populations
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary hospital environment
• Commitment to compassionate, evidence-based, patient-centered care

Experience in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry or inpatient psychiatry is preferred, but providers with strong inpatient psychiatric experience and an interest in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry are encouraged to apply.
