Diagnostic Radiology Physician Assistant – MedStar Medical Group Radiology

MedStar Medical Group Radiology is currently seeking a Physician Assistant to join our growing Diagnostic Radiology team.

 

In this role, the Physician Assistant will work closely with radiologists to support clinical care and imaging services that enhance patient safety, improve workflow efficiency, and optimize imaging quality. The position will primarily support Neuroradiology services at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, with additional coverage at Lafayette Centre as needed.

 

Schedule:

  • Monday–Friday, 5 eight-hour shifts
  • No call and no weekend coverage

Preferred Experience:

Diagnostic radiology or hospital-based acute care experience is preferred. Washington, DC licensure is required.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with diagnostic procedures, including lumbar punctures, myelography, spine and joint interventions, and head and neck biopsies (training and supervision provided by attending radiologists)
  • Support fluoroscopic procedures such as modified barium swallow studies, upper GI exams, barium enemas, and hysterosalpingography (HSG)
  • Review relevant clinical history, prior imaging, and laboratory results prior to procedures and studies
  • Obtain patient histories and perform focused clinical assessments
  • Obtain informed consent and provide thorough pre- and post-procedure patient education
  • Protocol MRI and CT examinations in collaboration with radiologists
  • Provide MRI safety support, including screening for implants and devices and ensuring compliance with safety protocols
  • Administer and monitor CT perfusion studies and contrast injections per institutional protocols
  • Identify and manage contrast reactions in accordance with established guidelines
  • Monitor patients during and after procedures, including occasional pre- and post-procedure clinic visits
  • Accurately document clinical encounters and procedures in the electronic medical record (EMR)
  • Communicate effectively with referring providers, technologists, nursing staff, and the broader care team
