General Summary of Position


Responsible for managing Anatomic Pathology Services Outreach Lab. This role provides leadership coordinating administrative regulatory fiscal and technical activities and ensuring 24-hour accountability. It involves implementing clinical protocols quality assurance programs and consulting with the Medical Director and Administrative Director. It ensures quality assurance technical competency and inspection readiness. Additionally the role includes performing gross pathology examinations dissecting specimens assisting with training and competency maintaining lab operations securing staffing customer service and resolving problems.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • In collaboration and consultation with the medical director and administrative director manages the entire anatomic pathology operation.
  • Provides oversight for the specimen journey including preanalytic analytic and postanalytic phases. Oversees specimen gross examination including performing staff training and competency. Individually performs grossing of more complex specimens that cannot be delegated per regulatory or training limitations.
  • Selects trains orients and assigns sectional staff. Develops standards of performance evaluates performance in a timely manner and ensures that appraisals reflect the individuals' ability to meet performance expectations.
  • Maintains ongoing communication with entire lab team operation to review programs provide feedback discuss new developments and exchange information. Demonstrates and fosters customer relations in keeping with the organization's specific goals and standards. Duties may be delegated as appropriate and permitted by regulations and law.
  • Counsels associates effectively and collaborates with the Administrative Director and Human Resources to utilize the coaching/counseling process.
  • Communicates with laboratory team and external clients on matters relating to specimen collection labeling transport and testing. Coordinates programs (e.g. Safety Performance Improvement etc.) and supports the implementation of new programs. Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the business unit as needed.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams.
  • Directs and/or delegates documentation implementation of records system maintains sectional records reports statistics logs and files.
  • Manages procurement activities including vendor selection purchasing receiving storage and utilization of equipment materials and supplies.
  • Manages assigned operational and capital budgets according to guidelines. Reviews laboratory sections' monthly reports and completes required documentation / justification as requested. Manages and monitors all billing and revenue generating activities for the assigned laboratory sections.
  • Reviews reports and audits to ensure compliance with all billing regulations. Escalates non-compliance as necessary.
  • Responsible for the implementation and management of quality assurance programs technical competency assessments clinical protocols standards of care and survey readiness.
  • Collaboratively works with the Supervisor to ensure all competency assessments proficiency tests and other quality control activities are completed timely and according to manufacturer / regulatory guidelines. Creates reviews and revises laboratory section SOPs to meet all required guidelines.
  • Oversees the regulatory readiness for the lab in collaboration with the medical director. Assists in ensuring that the laboratory section is in compliance with all applicable government regulations and accreditation standards.
  • Oversees customer service program. Onboards new locations including helping establish all processes required to incorporate the additional volumes at the lab as well as facilitate organizing the sending site to appropriate procedures and protocols. Ensures their continued success by incorporating new sites into the overall quality assurance program.
  • Collects data and performs comparative analyses of work units; may participate in research activities; investigates new products equipment methodologies and introduces demonstrates and recommends as appropriate.

Minimal Qualifications
Education

  • Master's degree in Pathology Assistant or equivalent, required.

Experience

  • 5-7 years of progressively more responsible job-related experience with clinical familiarity of Histopathology and/or cytopathology, preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

  • ASCP - American Society of Clinical Pathologist as a Pathologist Assistant Upon Hire, required.

This position has a hiring range of

USD $102,606.00 - USD $196,996.00 /Yr.
