About the Job

General Summary of Position
Provides high-quality physical occupational or speech therapy services to patients including but not limited to screening and evaluation treatment planning implementation reassessment and revision re-evaluation discharge planning and thorough documentation. In addition to direct clinical responsibilities this role is accountable for the overall operations and management of the department or clinic.Serves as a strategic and operational leader fostering a culture of clinical excellence service quality and team collaboration. Provides day-to-day leadership to staff while driving program development for designated service lines. Partners with the Director and/or Regional Director to support business planning and operational strategies that align with broader organizational goals and evolving healthcare needs.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities


  • Contributes to the development and achievement of established department goals and objectives. Adheres to department policies procedures and quality and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Provides evaluation ( Except if PTA/COTA) and treatment services including review of pertinent history information performance of specific assessments and determination of recommendations and documentation of results. Explains evaluation findings and treatment plan to patient and family and incorporates patient and family in the goals setting. Demonstrates proficiency in implementation of treatment protocols. Consults with other healthcare professionals as indicated. Documents changes in patient's condition.
  • Demonstrates autonomy in clinical practice and clinical reasoning is guided by analytical processes and evidence-based practice. Takes initiative in pursuing and directing continuing education for professional growth and competency for self and organization. Actively supports the department/clinic strategic plan and provides clinical development support in order to meet the department/clinic needs.
  • Promotes excellent customer experience and great access. Demonstrates a professional commitment to provide frictionless patient access to care through flexibility adaptability creativity and actions/behaviors that display empathy in our patient consumer driven environment. Identifies and assists team in removal of barriers to access.
  • Oversees and is responsible the overall operations of the physical therapy department/clinic. Ensures appropriate staffing levels to meet the needs of the organization and works with director to advocate for staffing needs based upon the growth and changes in specific service-lines. Maintains associate records and assists director in management and maintenance of department competencies and policies. Provides direct supervision and mentorship to clinical supervisors/coordinators to promote continued leadership growth within the department.
  • Coordinates selection coaching orientation and mentoring of departments staff. Develops standards of performance and conducts performance management timely.
  • Leads department service-line and discipline specific decision making and problem solving as it impacts patient care. Initiates and implements ideas for process improvement task force development development of special project or evidence-based practice that assist with growth streamlining operations reducing cost and improving quality. Assess data to ensure quality outcomes and adjusts as needed. Leads the development and review of clinical policies that meet identified standards of care.
  • Participates in multi-disciplinary program development expansion and improvement. Catalyzes communication and collaboration with physicians and other program/service stakeholders across the care continuum as applicable. Actively participates or leads teams/committees to promote the goals of the service line.
  • Coordinates community and MedStar outreach and formal marketing initiatives to expand potential patient and referrer awareness of programs and services. Drives the initiative in developing and managing referrals.
  • Minimal Qualifications
    Education
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited school of Physical Therapy required or
    • Master's degree from an accredited school of Occupational Therapy required or
    • Master's degree from an accredited school of Speech Language Pathology required or
    • Associate's degree from an accredited school of Physical Therapy Assistant required and
    • Bachelor's degree in a related field or in business
    • One year of relevant education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.
    Experience
    • 3-4 years Minimum of 3-4 years clinical experience in a rehabilitation setting required and
    • 1-2 years Minimum of 2 years of experience in teaching treatment principles and application to students and/or staff required and
    • 1-2 years Two years of professional staff supervision experience preferred
    • One year of relevant professional-level work experience may be substituted for one year of required education.
    Licenses and Certifications
    • OT - Occupational Therapist licensure in Maryland District of Columbia (DC) and/or Virginia as deemed necessary for the specific location Upon Hire required or
    • PT - Physical Therapist licensure in Maryland District of Columbia (DC) and/or Virginia as deemed necessary for the specific location Upon Hire required or
    • SLP - Speech Language Practitioner licensure in Maryland District of Columbia (DC) and/or Virginia as deemed necessary for the specific location Upon Hire required or
    • PTA - Physical Therapist Assistant licensure in Maryland District of Columbia (DC) and/or Virginia as deemed necessary for the specific location Upon Hire required or
    • COTA - Occupational Therapy Assistant - Certified licensure in Maryland District of Columbia (DC) and/or Virginia as deemed necessary for the specific location Upon Hire required and
    • CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required
    Knowledge Skills and Abilities
    • The ideal candidate demonstrates sound clinical reasoning during patient care to maximize effective and safe outcomes has effective time management abilities and meets productivity expectations of the respective department which entails established productivity targets and have excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively train and manage personnel.
    • In addition the incumbent will be required to be familiar with computer applications as it relates to Physical Occupational or Speech Therapy Service and management information systems.

    This position has a hiring range of

    USD $102,606.00 - USD $196,996.00 /Yr.
