General Summary of Position

We have a full-time opportunity at our Transfer Center in Lanham, MD office. The Radiology Communications Coordinator works in the MedStar Transfer Center as a representative for the Radiology on call program. This role provides services including critical radiology communications between physicians and departments, as well as other critical communications for the MedStar Health system.

The work schedule is 7pm-7am with every other weekend required. 

This Full-Time position will be represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 722. 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Contacts physicians and other providers using on-call schedules and paging or other text messaging systems.
• Completes required documentation in multiple computer systems.
• Coordinates MedStar Radiology physicians with required clinician to provide urgent clinical results.
• Implements response protocol in the event of computer downtime or system outage.
• Provides support for MedStar Transfer Center for disaster communications during hospital response (Code Orange) and mass casualty incidents.
• Assists in the orientation of new department personnel.
• Participates in on-going education quality assurance tasks and other projects as assigned.

Minimal Qualifications
Education

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Specialized and/or advanced clerical technical or other vocational training in emergency medicine/communications acquired during 1-2 years of additional job-related training required

Experience

• 2 years in communications and/or healthcare required
• One year of relevant professional-level work experience may be substituted for one year of required education.

Licenses and Certifications

• Medical Assistant (current or prior registration) preferred 
• Certified Nursing Assistant (current or prior registration) preferred

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

• Proficiency in keyboarding (>60 words/minute preferred)
• Job requires extensive keyboarding handwriting and use of telephone equipment
