General Summary of Position
We have an opportunity for an experienced Clinical Pharmacy Specialist I to join our Emergency Department at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center in Clinton, Maryland. The current work schedule is typically Monday through Friday, 11:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. solely in the Emergency Department. This schedule is subject to change in the future to include weekend rotations and late evening shifts, depending on the future operational needs of the Emergency Department (ED).
Under limited supervision, provides a higher level of direct patient care pharmacy services for an assigned, specialized patient population to assure adequate patient care according to professional standards and practices. Advises/consults with patients and their families and with the medical and nursing staff. Participates in research and drug use outcomes management programs within specialty area; instructs and trains pharmacy residents and students. Acts as a mentor to clinical pharmacists.

Minimal Qualifications
Education
- Doctoral degree PharmD or an equivalent Pharmacy degree from an accredited college of Pharmacy required
Experience
- 5-7 years of hospital experience with at least 4 years in a specialized area required, or PGY-1 and PGY-2 required, or PGY-1 plus 2 years of direct patient care experience in a specialized area required
Licenses and Certifications
- RPH - Registered Pharmacist Licensure as a Pharmacist in the state of Maryland required
- Board certification in area of specialty required. Recent PGY2 residents can have one year to secure required board certification.

- PROBLEM SOLVING: Job requires a relatively high level of problem-solving to find solutions to difficult human, technical, clinical or administrative problems.
- INTERNAL CONTACTS: Internal contacts necessary to effectively advise, consult or counsel others to gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas or actions.
- INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT: Work is occasionally performed according to existing procedures and instructions but often requires analysis of problems and development of solutions. This involves determining appropriate methods and task sequences.
- PATIENT CARE: Assists with patient care by performing duties that allow others to provide direct patient care (e.g., performing lab tests).
- RESPONSIBILITY FOR WORK OF OTHERS: Responsible as an individual contributor but may sometimes direct one or two other employees.
- Verbal and written communication skills. Basic computer skills preferred.
This position has a hiring range of $120,702 - $238,222
