General Summary of Position
In this role, you will provide technical information, coordination and direction to technologists in the immunohistochemistry laboratory section, engaged in performing specialized tests for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.  In addition, you will be monitoring quality control, quality assurance and safety programs.  This is a part time role, 20 hours per week, working hours 10am-6pm days may vary.  


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assigns employees to duties and oversees performance of tests in such fields as microbiology, chemistry, histology, hematology, diagnostic immunology, immunohematology and urinalysis. Performs laboratory testing in assigned specialty areas.
  • Serves as a technical resource and troubleshoots instrumentation, technical and computer problems. Reviews reports of completed analyses. Evaluates and explains abnormal or unusual tests results and assists technologists in solving problems. Correlates lab results with pathology and physiologic states to determine validity of data.
  • Answers questions and resolves complaints from physicians and nursing units.
  • Reviews and evaluates quality control data and quality assurance problems. Makes decisions concerning quality control data and initiates corrective actions.
  • Monitors inventory and replaces supplies, reagents and equipment as needed.
  • Engages in research and development of new techniques and testing methods.
  • Facilitates the implementation and ongoing development of information and technical systems. Reviews and monitors productivity and workflow to maximize efficiency. Summarizes and prepares statistical reports as required.
  • Writes and updates policies and procedures for assigned area of responsibility. Oversees cost containment for assigned area. Ensures compliance with accreditation standards, regulatory and inspection requirements.

  • Provides input into employee performance appraisals and assures that staff complies with Hospital and departmental policies and practices.
  • May assume the duties of the supervisor of the laboratory as required.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related science field required

    Experience

    • 3-4 years of progressively more responsible job related experience required

    Licenses and Certifications

    • ASCP - American Society of Clinical Pathologist certification required


    This position has a hiring range of $41.98 - $75.62
