General Summary of Position
The Director of Business Development will direct the day-to-day aspects of all business development and strategy aspects of MedStar Health Ambulatory services operations to grow the business. Responsible for supporting operational and strategic growth business plans, including acquisitions, mergers, strategic partnerships, and denovo development projects. Works in partnership with MedStar Health leaders and external partners to ensure delivery of customer focused, high quality care to MedStar Ambulatory Services customers.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with operational and other leaders (MAS, MMG and MedStar Hospitals) to develop and support growth plans
  • Leads and supports the development of business plans from conception to implementation, coordinating with planning, operations, finance, and marketing.
  • Facilitates development of Certificate of Need (CON) applications and interfaces with governmental affairs as needed.
  • Supports development and expansion of ambulatory care projects and services, including market feasibility, program design, site/facility development, and start-up operations.
  • Assists with long-range planning and forecasting for MAS service lines, including evaluating market strengths/weaknesses and competitive positioning.
  • Evaluates performance of existing centers; develops transitional/optimization strategies and recommends acquisitions.
  • Leads onboarding and integration of new acquisition businesses, including LOI drafting, diligence, and project management support.
  • Participates in site selection, lease negotiations, and development of new MAS locations to support network growth.
  • Oversees deployment of new programs/services through the MedStar Health Ambulatory Services Network.
  • Develops and presents business plans/models to support MAS acquisitive activity; collaborates with service line leaders and internal stakeholders.
  • In collaboration with leadership, develops new products/services to achieve same-store growth targets.
  • Supports the development of business plans and operational monitoring for all MAS-related projects, including assessing financial impact on other MedStar entities.
  • Facilitates annual capital budgeting and financial planning for business units; coordinates with finance.

  • Collaborates with facilities teams to develop preliminary program plans and capital estimates. Supports facility/design/construction through project scoping with operations teams. Ensures efficient use of MAS facilities through monitoring utilization; works with MACC leadership to optimize provider/facility use and strategic improvements.
  • Works in collaboration with MMG process for practice acquisitions management, including data intake, practice profile development, and LOI drafting.
  • Manages onboarding and integration of acquired businesses through acquisition checklists, stakeholder coordination, and adherence to timelines.
  • Participates in meetings, committees, and multidisciplinary quality/service improvement teams. Participates in leadership councils as appropriate.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • Bachelor's degree Business required
    • Master's degree in Business, healthcare administration or related field of study required

    Experience

    • 3-4 years Progressively more responsible job related experience required

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • High level of problem solving due to the complexity of the situations encountered.
    • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
    • Ability to organize and analyze data for multiple sources.
    • Strong knowledge of and proficiency with Excel.


    This position has a hiring range of $93,142 - $175,968
