Job Summary: 
 

MedStar Health is looking for an Emergency Room Discharge Coordinator to join our team at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital! 

As an Emergency Room Discharge Coordinator, you will be responsible for the coordination of patient care and access to services, provides materials and serves as a liaison with members of the patient's health care team as well as provides administrative support to the department physicians. Functions as a patient advocate, guides patients and families throughout the process.

Primary Duties: 

  • Serves as navigator for patient and family members through coordinating care with all members of the healthcare team including physicians, clinic support staff and other members of the healthcare team. 

  • Coordinates patient's appointments including office, specialists, testing, pre-operative, post-operative and surgical appointments. Functions as a liaison between patients, families, health care team and community resources. Advocates for identifying and eliminating barriers to care. 

  • Handles referral calls to ensure streamlined access to care. Ensures patient referral process for specialty services is coordinated, anticipating patient and family needs throughout the process. 

  • Provides clerical and administrative support to physicians including answering the telephones, relaying messages, and transmitting information to the appropriate personnel. Composes and types the correspondence of various clinical and non-clinical documents. Manage physician's calendar and coordinates meetings, etc. 

  • Schedules surgical cases and admissions for the department. Communicates posting information to physician, nurse and administrative staff within the department, as appropriate. Communicates scheduling information, including information regarding surgical schedule, MedStar Georgetown University Hospital facilities, policies and instructions to patients and families.  
     

Qualifications: 

  • Associates degree. 

  • 1-2 years' experience in a medical clinical office as a Patient Registration Associate or Administrative Assistant. 

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
