General Summary of Position
The Epic IS Business Intelligence Developer is responsible for developing and maintaining analytics content and data integration pipelines for MedStar's EHR, specifically using Epic's Cogito Analytics platform. This role involves creating reports, dashboards, and data extracts with Epic Cogito tools (e.g., Reporting Workbench, Radar, SlicerDicer, and Cogito SQL). Contributes to Caboodle ETL development and claims data aggregation. Collaborates with stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions, ensuring that these solutions adhere to MedStar Health's data quality, governance, and performance standards.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations
  • Develops and tests analytics content using Epic tools (e.g., Reporting Workbench, Radar, SlicerDicer, Cogito SQL). This may involve creating new content, configuring Epic-released foundational system content, or modifying existing reporting content to meet the needs of executive and operational stakeholders
  • Writes and configures custom SQL queries via Epic Clarity, Caboodle, or Cogito for data extraction from Epic sources like Chronicles, Clarity, and Caboodle for financial, operational, and clinical reports.
  • Maintains ETL packages and data pipelines to move Epic and non-Epic data into Caboodle, including scheduling, monitoring, and error remediation.
  • Supports claims data aggregation processes, including file transfer setup, validation, monitoring, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborates with subject matter experts and stakeholder groups to understand reporting needs and translate them into cohesive technical and analytic solutions.
  • Participates in testing, validation, and peer review of analytics content for distribution to data consumers. Works consistently with MedStar Health informatics, clinical app, and other relevant parties to ensure the reliability and success of analytics products.
  • Maintains the Epic Analytics Catalog and associated metadata records needed for the upkeep of analytics content displayed in the Epic Analytics Catalog.
  • Works with the Epic hosting team to monitor and troubleshoot data quality issues and ETL performance across the Epic Cogito database platforms.
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of database technologies, data integration methods, and Epic/third-party BI tools.
  • Contributes to multiple design and development projects, ensuring alignment with business, technical, and data governance requirements in partnership with key groups such as Enterprise Analytics, IS, MAP Community of Practice, and others..
  • Conducts thorough evaluations of upgrade documentation pertaining to Epic Cogito features and identifies the most appropriate strategies for implementing these modifications Responsible for building and maintaining Epic Cubes, Extracts, Slicer Dicer models, third-party BI tools, and Epic data in Caboodle.
  • Required on-call support to include weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Frequency of rotation will vary depending on need/size of department. Must be willing to carry a cell phone and be available for 24 x 7.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary teams, meetings, and committees to support quality and service improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrates readiness to take on increasing responsibility and grow into a senior integration role through continuous learning and performance.
  • Required on-call support to include weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Frequency of rotation will vary depending on need/size of department. Must be willing to carry a cell phone and be available for 24 x 7.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Related Field of Study required
    • One year of relevant education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

    Experience

    • 3-4 years experience in BI development, database design or data integration required and
    • Experience with Epic data models (Chronicles, Clarity, Caboodle). Experience with data warehousing models, designing processes for complex data structures, and using best practices in data integration. Experience in BI reporting and analysis, with advanced skills using BI tools such as Tableau or Power BI. preferred
    • One year of relevant professional-level work experience may be substituted for one year of required education.

    Licenses and Certifications

    • EPIC - EPIC Certification EPIC - EPIC Certification within 90 Days required

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Familiarity with Epic workflows and operational system usage.
    • Skilled in the practical use of SQL and/or Python
    • Excellent interpersonal (verbal and written) communication skills.
    • Experience with ETL processes
    • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
    • Proficiency with BI tools such as Tableau or Power BI


    This position has a hiring range of $93,142 - $175,968
