MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center is currently recruiting for a certified Gynecologic Oncology Advanced Practice Provider (APP-Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) at our community hospital located in Baltimore, Maryland. Job Overview:
The Gynecologic Oncology Department at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center is seeking an experienced Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to expand gynecologic care coverage in the Baltimore Metro area. This key position serves as a clinical bridge between outpatient and inpatient services, ensuring comprehensive care for gynecologic oncology patients across both settings. The role requires clinical expertise in women's health, surgery, and/or oncology, with a strong emphasis on hands-on patient management in both the outpatient clinic and inpatient floors. The APP will collaborate with gynecologic oncology physicians to deliver high-quality care in a dynamic clinical environment. Comprehensive training in gynecologic oncology will be provided to the selected candidate. This training will include, but is not limited to, exposure to clinical practice, surgery, and cancer management protocols, enabling the APP to effectively manage both inpatient and outpatient gynecologic oncology cases. Ongoing mentorship from experienced gynecologic oncologists and hands-on procedural training will ensure a solid foundation in this specialized field. Key Responsibilities: Inpatient and Outpatient Care:
- New Consults: Conduct initial inpatient consultations for gynecologic oncology patients, providing timely evaluations and treatment recommendations.
- Outpatient Surveillance: Oversee the outpatient surveillance of gynecologic oncology patients, monitoring for recurrence and progression of cancer.
- Post-Op Follow-Up: Manage post-operative patients in an outpatient setting to assess healing, address complications, and ensure continuity of care.
- Clinical Decision-Making: Make autonomous clinical decisions in person when needed to ensure continuity of care for patients, especially when providers are at other locations.
- Surgical Support: Assist in gynecologic oncology surgeries, leveraging prior surgical experience or familiarity with procedures.
- Voiding Trials and Wound Care: Perform voiding trials, staple removal, and wound care as part of post-operative management to ensure optimal recovery.
- Fielding Clinical Questions: Respond to clinical inquiries from patients, nursing staff, and other healthcare providers via phone, email, or portal, offering guidance and ensuring appropriate follow-up.
- Infusion Center Support: Provide support by addressing phone calls and clinical questions related to patient care in the infusion center, helping resolve treatment-related concerns.
- Lab Orders: Order necessary outpatient labs, ensuring all diagnostic and treatment needs are met efficiently and effectively.
- Chemotherapy Orders: Oversee chemotherapy orders for patients undergoing treatment, ensuring adherence to protocols and timely administration.
- Chief on Service: Assume the role of "chief on service" in the gynecologic oncology unit, overseeing patient care, ensuring optimal clinical outcomes, and leading the care team in the absence of other providers.
- Graduation from an accredited Advanced Practice Provider program (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant).
- Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the state of Maryland.
- Clinical experience in gynecologic oncology, women's health, surgery, and/or oncology.
- Excellent communication skills
- Surgical experience is ideal but not required.
