Description

The Lead Clinical Dietitian is responsible for leading the dietician team on day-to-day operations including but not limited to collecting pertinent information, development of appropriate care plans, monitoring the status of patients, counseling patient and family on special nutritional requirements, consulting with other health personnel (physician, nurse, pharmacist, case manager, therapist, etc.) as appropriate.
Education

  • Bachelor's degree in dietetics, nutrition, or equivalent required
Experience
  • 5-7 years experience in a healthcare setting.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Current state licensure/registration required and
  • Active member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics required and
  • CNSD - Certified Nutrition Support Dietitian Active registration through the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) preferred
  • Consults with and/or makes recommendations to physicians and other allied health professionals regarding patients' nutritional status, nutrient needs, or specific diet plan.
  • Formulates nutritional assessment, evaluation, and follow-up for patients at high risk (comprehensive are level) or according to departmental policy for patients who may be at risk and recommends patient's nutrition treatment plans findings in patients' medical record.
  • Consults in/outpatients in diet rationale for self-management.
  • Participates in clinical rounds, appropriate department/service meetings and communicates appropriate information to administrative personnel in service area. Assigned Critical Care Units and General Medicine Floors. Must be flexible to cross train to Neonatal ICU and Pediatric ICU
  • Takes part in on-going marketing efforts for new contract and fee for services programs.
  • Reviews at least two annual review of literature pertinent to area(s) of responsibility and present to peers in Journal Club
  • Attends pertinent meeting to enhance clinical practice to support growth, recorded and documented in CDR Professional Development Plan.
  • Performs at least one annual formal professional presentation in area of specialty to medical or allied health professionals.
  • Develops and implements at least one of the following: education material, new policy or policy change, new form such as nutrition care plan, nutrition form to go in Medical Record, TPN/TF form, or booklet such as nutrition care for specific disease states, in area of specialty.
  • Provides relief coverage, as delegated, for in/outpatient services.
  • Assumes other duties and responsibilities that are appropriate to the position and area. The above responsibilities are a general description of the level and nature of the work assigned to this classification and is not to be considered as all-inclusive.
