Schedule: Saturday & Sunday; 7:00AM – 5:00PM

Job Summary:

MedStar Health is looking for a part-time OR Ops Control Clerk to join our team on the weekends at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital.

 

The position involves coordinating communications and functions of the individual surgical suite control desk (Inpatient OR, SDS) to ensure a smooth running, efficient surgical schedule.

Primary Duties:

·       Coordinates surgical scheduling and communication by updating the Master OR Schedule, notifying staff of elective and urgent case changes, and ensuring all relevant departments (OR staff, Anesthesia, Nursing Units, Admissions) are informed of procedure updates and patient status.

·       Supports surgical patient flow by arranging transport, confirming premedication, verifying x-rays and blood product availability, and ensuring all pre-op requirements are met in coordination with nursing and ancillary teams.

·        Initiates and responds to critical situations by activating emergency protocols (e.g., codes, disaster response), and promptly reporting equipment or alarm issues to appropriate personnel or departments.

·       Operates essential systems and manages resources including intercom, pneumatic tube, and lab request systems; maintains inventory of records, requisitions, and prepares patient-specific documentation for procedures.

·       Promotes a safe and professional environment by requesting room turnover support, demonstrating strong guest and staff relations, and performing additional responsibilities as needed to support OR operations.


Minimum Qualifications:

·       High School Diploma or GED

·       2 years hospital work experience as a medical secretary or a unit secretary.

·       Medical/surgical terminology

·       Experience working with multiple telephone lines highly desirable; effective oral and written communication skills.

·       Office skills, which include knowledge and operational use of, automated systems, and pneumatic tube system.

·       Ability to maintain emotional controls and functions in a very high activity area and under stress during emergent and non-emergent situations.



This position has a hiring range of $18.33 - $31.61
