Description

Responsible for collaborating closely with the Executive Director (Physician Leader) to lead and implement a system-wide approach for MedStar Senior Services. This role focuses on effective and efficient clinical operations, quality patient outcomes, and fiscal accountability. In partnership with the Executive Director, this position leads care teams across settings to achieve population health quality measures, improve patient/family experience, promote health equity, and reduce the overall cost of care. Utilizes service line data to actively evaluate and improve care delivery. Partners with other system leaders to shape care and health system navigation for elderly patients.
Education

  • Master's degree in Healthcare Administration or related field required
Experience
  • 5-7 years Related experience in the health care setting to include track record of leading successful teams; working knowledge of operational processes, performance improvement and data collection; experience working effectively with multiple departments and physicians: Managing complex projects; solid knowledge of financial reports and budgeting, and some familiarity with value-based payment models. required and
  • Clinical service and/or geriatric experience preferred

  • In conjunction with the Executive Director, develops cohesive management structure and implements annual operating plan to track and oversee quality, service, fiscal, and operational objectives for Senior Services.
  • Creates financial and operational strategy aligned with overall MedStar plans and implements best practices and benchmarks for Senior Services which includes aligning incentives to retain high performing care teams, developing cost/benefit proformas, staying current on new payment and policy trends, using data including patient/family experience to drive quality outcomes and performance.
  • Ensures ongoing timely and effective collaboration and situational awareness with key stakeholders including MedStar Medical Group, hospital leaders, Clinical Care Transformation, and other MedStar Health executives.
  • Keeps abreast and promotes evidence-based care practice standards. Develops standard departmental workflows and metrics in conjunction with Executive Director, health system standards, and site leaders to maximize efficiency and effectiveness. Leads implementation efforts and continual quality improvement efforts.
  • Selects, trains, orients, and assigns department staff. Develops standards of performance, evaluates performance, and conducts performance management functions. Initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions. Maintains ongoing communication with subordinates to review programs, provide feedback, discuss new developments, and exchange information.
  • In conjunction with the Executive Director, leads diverse teams by setting clear performance standards, providing regular feedback, and fostering a culture of accountability. Approachable, present, and proactive in addressing issues, ensuring all team members feel valued and empowered to succeed.
  • Assesses and oversees productivity, billing, profit/loss per cost center, including revenue/cycle workflows, appropriate billing infrastructure and compliance, and billing and coding work applicable to risk stratification and seriously ill populations (i.e. improvement efforts for accurate HCC scoring).
  • Participates and leads operations in new payment models appropriate to geriatrics and MedStar strategic direction.
  • Develops and recommends annual departmental operation budget, prepares 5-year forecast with support, and manages resources to adhere to approved budgets for designated cost centers.
  • Develops proposals and assists in contract negotiations that align with strategic goals (philanthropy, value-based payment models, vendor, employment contracts) and manages their requirements, including narrative, outcome and financial reports.
  • Develops effective working relationships with key clinical and community partners. Demonstrates excellent customer service and resolves problems as necessary for departmental functionality, cohesiveness, and reputation.
  • Participates in meetings, conferences, and committees. Represents the department in community outreach and advocacy efforts.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams and maintains effective working relationships with other departments.
  • Develops department goals, objectives, policies, and procedures. Ensures compliance with business unit policies and procedures and governmental and accreditation regulations.
