General Summary of Position
Leads the strategic development and implementation of advanced analytics, dashboards, and data visualization solutions for the Department of Strategic Planning for MedStar Health. This role plays a critical function in ensuring data optimization, integrity and accuracy in enterprise-wide reporting, including board-level deliverables such as the Balanced Scorecard and Annual Operating Plan. Partners with senior leadership, clinical, financial and operational stakeholders to generate actionable strategic insights aligned with organizational goals. This position requires strategic vision, technical expertise, and analytic fluency. Maintains robust data pipelines, promoting strategic data literacy, and continuously evolves the department's data visualization capabilities.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Partners with Strategic Planning leadership to define and execute the data visualization strategy in alignment with MedStar Health's strategic goals.
  • Collaborates with senior leaders and operational teams to gather analytics requirements and translates them into impactful visualization solutions.
  • Ensures data accuracy, integrity, and consistency across all dashboards and analytics products.
  • Oversees the development and deployment of dashboards, reports, and analytics tools using Tableau and other platforms.
  • Directs advanced data analysis and modeling to support strategic initiatives and performance improvement.
  • Identifies opportunities to enhance reporting processes, streamlines data workflows, and implements automation where appropriate.
  • Stays abreast of industry trends and emerging tools to continuously evolve strategic analytics capabilities.
  • Ensures compliance with data privacy, security policies, and regulatory standards.
  • Oversees preparation and quality assurance for board-facing reports, including the Balanced Scorecard and Annual Operating Plan.
  • Provides training and mentorship to team members on strategic analytics tools to foster skill development and ensures consistency in data practices.
  • Represents the department in system data analytics meetings, cross-functional initiatives, and external engagements as needed.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, business, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or a related field required
    • One year of relevant education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

    Experience

    • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in data analytics and visualization, including at least 3 years with a demonstrated ability to query, clean, blend, validate, aggregate, and analyze large datasets and create dashboards with advanced data visualizations in Tableau and/or Power Bi required
    • Experience with relational databases and SQL required
    • Python experience a plus
    • One year of relevant professional-level work experience may be substituted for one year of required education.

    Licenses and Certifications

    • Certified Tableau Specialist Tableau/Power BI Certification preferred

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Strategic thinking and leadership skills with the ability to align data initiatives with business objectives.
    • Advanced expertise in Tableau/Power BI with the ability to guide the design and deployment of complex visualizations and dashboards.
    • Proficiency in SQL, Python, and data integration tools such as Alteryx.
    • Strong understanding of data governance, quality assurance, and analytics lifecycle management.
    • Proven ability to train and develop a high-performing analytics team.
    • Exceptional communication and storytelling skills with the ability to present complex data to executive audiences.
    • Strong project management and organizational skills; able to manage multiple initiatives in a fast-paced environment.
    • Demonstrated ability to foster collaboration across departments and levels of the organization.


    This position has a hiring range of $93,142 - $175,968
