Description

MedStar Washington Hospital Center has a full-time Supervisor opening for our Communications Center team. This position supervises and monitors the 24 hour operations of the Communications Center. Provides hands-on assistance to ensure appropriate staffing coverage, as needed. Supervises, trains, counsels and develops operator staff. Ensures the preparation and processing of billing functions within functional area. Maintains and updates communication system databases. Provides various administrative and system support for the voice processing, paging, patient information systems and communications assistance services. Manages inventory and distribution of telecommunications equipment/directories.

This department is open 24/7 and will require working on day/evening/night shifts as well as weekends.


Education
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
Experience
  • Less than 1 year of progressively more responsible job-related experience in a customer service-related field required
  • Previous Telephone Operator or call center experience preferred.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Good verbal and written communication/interpersonal skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • In consultation with the Manager, assumes responsibility for the personnel management of the Communication Center Operators including, but not limited to, interviewing, hiring, coaching, counseling, evaluating, reprimanding and terminating employees.
  • Effectively relates to peers, supervisor and customers on a daily basis.*
  • Supervises monitors and maintains all operator and communication services systems. Performs system administration activities to include operation of systems, upgrades and modifications of current functions, and development or creation of new functions and capabilities. Provides technical support to special projects as assigned.*
  • Reviews, approves, prioritizes and assigns all requests for communication services. Ensure that service is provided in accordance with approved policies, procedures and practices and status of request is communicated in a timely and appropriate manner. Establishes and monitors quality control and improvement activities and develops/maintains appropriate inventory control systems.*
  • Develops, implements and monitors policies, procedures and performance standards to ensure achievement of department goals and objectives. Submits to Senior Director, Professional & Support Services for review/approval.
