Overview:
Under the direction of the preschool teacher, will assist in providing care and age-appropriate activities. Performs related duties as assigned.
• Assists in the implementation of the daily lesson plans.
• Participates in the ongoing activities of the room so that it runs smoothly, i.e., safety, meals, minor housekeeping, etc.
• Monitors health, well-being and developmental levels of the children in his/her care. He/she should bring any special cases to the attention of the Teacher and Director.
• Responds to the children's needs in a caring, loving and positive manner. Provides discipline in accordance with the philosophy of the Center.
• Communicates with the Assistant Director, Director and Preschool Teacher on matters concerning program content and the Centers activities through weekly staff meeting and conferences.
• Friendly and introduces self to people they don't recognize. Communications with parents must be done in a positive manner and all parents will be treated with upmost courtesy.
• Assists in the care and upkeep of the equipment in his/her classroom and that of the Center.
• Assists in monitoring supplies, and requests needed supplies from the Director or from parents, as is appropriate, after discussion with lead teacher.
• Assists in monitoring and recording attendance in the classroom for bookkeeping purposes.
• Assists in the orientation of new personnel.
• Attends enrichment events, conferences, etc., as requested by the Director.
• Part-time Assistant Teachers must be willing and able to work a fluctuating schedule as needed by the Center.
• Performs additional duties as directed.
Qualifications:
- Minimum Qualifications:
- Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required, OR active participant in the Mercy Win from Within program.
- Licensure:
- Must be registered with the State of practice Family Care Safety Registry within 15 days of hire.
- Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:
- Strong communication works well was a team, aware of developmentally appropriate.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Education:
- 2 college credit hours in Early Childhood Education or related Education Field.
- Experience:
- 1-year childcare experience.
