Position: Cardiac/Vascular Sonographer, Mercy Southeast
Department: Cardiovascular Services
Shift: Full-Time (40 Hrs. Week), Days

Overview:
1. Follows policy/procedures for Incident Reporting.
2. Follows Confidentiality Policy/Procedures.
3. Complies with Infection Control Guidelines.
4. Creates a safe environment for co-workers and patients: Fall Precaution, Restraint Management, Patient Identification, Department Specific Policies.
5. Respects patients and their guests personal property.
6. Adheres to hospital wide and specific department safety regulations: Fire and Tornado; Environmental Safety.
7. Performs equipment safety checks.
8. Complies with patients rights/regulations.
Coordination of Services:
1. Productivity is proportional to daily patient volume which will be equally distributed among other sonographers.
2. Recognizes opportunities to assist other staff and assist them in an independent effort.
3. Accepts delegation of tasks.
4. Assure that the service and or task quality is maintained by supporting the established Quality Improvement indicators and following procedure protocols.
5. Demonstrates responsibility for verifying orders and obtaining new orders for testing when necessary.
Primary Aspects:
1. Demonstrates proper time management skills and priority setting.
2. Assures all patient charges/credits are entered appropriately.
3. Measures and records all findings for the physicians to interpret.
4. Documentation is factual, accurate, organized, complete, current, and confidential.
5. Identifies patient education needs and utilizes appropriate resources to meet those needs.
6. Demonstrates flexibility regarding workload, assignments and change within the department.
7. Performs cardiovascular sonographic examinations including routine and emergency procedures. Performs portable exams in patient rooms, intensive care units, emergency room and operating room. Documents findings for physician interpretation.
8. Evaluates appropriateness of orders for examination. Obtains appropriate clinical history and documents information. Retrieves/prepares patient files. Schedules examinations and instructs patients in exam procedures.
Communication Management:
1. Communicates patient goals, objectives and changes in status to other health care team members and utilizes input to revise care plan for optimum patient benefit.
2. Makes independent decisions in routine and complex vascular situations and informs appropriate persons of actions and results.
3. Communicates to appropriate leadership with issues within the department.
Technology:
1. Demonstrates competence in initiating and maintaining use of routine equipment and procedures.
2. Demonstrates competence in performing diagnostic cardiovascular procedures.
3. Performs technical skills relative to area of nursing and vascular ultrasound practice.
4. Assists in evaluation of new products, equipment, policies, procedures and standards.
Competency Level:
1. Demonstrates the ability to perform most routine examinations proficiently and independently.
Qualifications:
Education: Graduate of a school of sonography or registered technologist.
Experience: None required. Credit may be given if experience was received with on-the-job training by a Preceptor who is registered in Cardiac ultrasound.
Certifications/Registrations:
-- Registry eligible (Achieve registry within 6 months of eligibility) or 1 applicable registry with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) OR The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) within the work area.
-- Must achieve OB/GYN registry within 6 months of hire regardless of other registries held at time of hire, if applicable
-- In the state of Arkansas, ARDMS certification as a Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT), OR Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) certification as a Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) OR ARRT certification in Vascular Sonography (VS) is required within 6 months of hire or transfer into role.
