Under the direction of the primary care operations team, the Primary Care Patient Certified MA works directly with Mercy Primary Care Providers to provide safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable, patient-centered care in a systematic way. The Primary Care Patient Care Certified MA will partner with patients, providers, and other members of the clinical care team to drive quality outcomes for all patients. Demonstrates strong communication, professionalism, and effective interpersonal skills with patients and clinical staff.
Proficient in EHR documentation, clinical workflows, and common outpatient procedures/equipment.
Thrives in a fast-paced outpatient environment, able to multitask, adapt quickly, and maintain accuracy.
Provides patient-centered care, showing awareness of cultural, behavioral, and population differences.
Works in a hands-on clinical setting with frequent patient interaction, routine PPE use, and occasional exposure to infectious materials.

Perform Advanced Standard Rooming with a ≥ 90% achievement rate over the last 6 months, including:
Conducting and documenting Annual Wellness Visit (AWV) questionnaires
Completing thorough medication reconciliation
Closing all applicable care gaps per the Encounter Guide (Fall Risk, Depression, Breast Cancer Screening, Colorectal Cancer Screening, Diabetes Eye Exam)
Rechecking blood pressure for patients with elevated initial readings
Completing the Patient Experience Conversation to support engagement and satisfaction
High school diploma or equivalent.
New hire must attend MA Clinic Academy training
Must have completed all MA Competencies
Must actively maintain MA certification.
Caregivers must actively maintain their certification, or they will be transitioned to the Medical Assistant title.
Caregivers can be hired as a Certified Medical Assistant if they are a Certified/Registered Medical Assistant.
Additional minimum requirement(s) only for Hospital Outpatient Departments
- Certification(s): BLS (Basic Life Support)
• Experience: One year of applicable patient care experience in an outpatient or ambulatory care setting.
• Education: Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant program
• Preferred requirement(s) for non-HOD Clinics: BLS (Basic Life Support)
Physical Requirements:
• Position requires the ability to push, pull, and/or lift 50 lbs on a regular basis.
• Position requires prolonged standing and walking during each shift.
• Position requires the ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.
