Overview:
• Manages the implementation of the Health System Health Information Management strategic and tactical plan as it relates to area of responsibility.
• Has a functional understanding of dataflow within the health system as it relates to health information management and the revenue cycle.
• Prepares weekly management reports on the status of assigned areas of responsibility.
• Continually monitors workflow to maintain our Accounts Receivable goals.
• Demonstrates knowledge of applicable federal/state laws and accreditation standards related to health information management.
• Participates in organization-wide QI/RM program and related activities. Conducts audits as necessary.
• Oversees and manages delivery of initial and ongoing training and orientation to co-workers, contractors, alliances, business associated and other appropriate third parties in HIM policies and procedures.
• Develops collaborative atmosphere and strong team environment within area of responsibility.
• Delegates appropriately to ensure key employees are trained and capable of handling problems when manager is not available to ensure consistent flow is not jeopardized.
• Develops and maintains written productivity and quality standards for coworkers and assures that these standards are met.
• Assists with development, coordination and management of a responsible capital and operations budget.
• Uses data and analytical thinking to identify process/system problems and develop solutions. Works to identify and implement best practices within area of responsibility.
• Assists in testing system functionality as well as validating database integrity.
• Assists in development of testing and conversion plans for information systems installation.
• Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Physical Requirements:
• Position requires the ability to push, pull, and/or lift 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
• Position requires prolonged standing and walking during each shift.
• Position requires the ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.
- Education: High school graduate or equivalent. R.H.I.T., R.H.I.A. or related degree required.
- Licensure: RHIT, CCS or RHIA.
- Experience: Minimum of three years of prior experience as a health information manager in a large acute care facility.
- Certifications: None.
- Other: Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, self-starting, independent individual, highly motivated and organized, a problem solver, requiring little direction.
- Solid business and process management skills and a proven track record.
- Working knowledge of computer systems and applications including document imaging, financial system, encoder, abstracting system, and other computer application as related to the job.
- Demonstrated excellent attendance record.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
- Working Conditions, Mental and Physical Requirements: The job will involve monitoring a database on a daily basis to determine the consistency of the flow, and make changes immediately when problems occur. The job will require a person to be able to make quick decisions on a routine basis. The job will be stressful at times, and will involve providing coverage at all times to ensure consistent flow.
