??? What You'll Do
As a PCA, you'll support nurses and play a vital role in delivering safe, compassionate patient care. Your responsibilities include:
Clinical & Patient Care- Assist with daily hygiene, turning/positioning, ambulation, and feeding support
- Monitor for signs of skin breakdown and use appropriate supplies for daily care
- Perform vital signs, collect patient data, and accurately document in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
- Participate in admissions, discharges, and transfers
- Conduct point-of-care testing such as glucose checks (based on unit needs)
- Observe and promptly report changes in patient condition
- Communicate effectively with the care team to ensure the best patient outcomes
- Demonstrate flexibility, good clinical judgment, and excellent time management
- Perform clerical tasks such as answering phones or monitoring call lights
- Support charge reconciliation and responsible resource stewardship
- Complete required certifications and eLearning assignments
- High school diploma, GED, CNA/CPTC, or enrollment in a health care program
- Current Mercy co-workers are also eligible
No previous experience? No problem.
We provide a 175‑hour training program (required for the state of practice), completed during new hire orientation. This must be finished within 90 days of hire to remain in the PCA role.
- BLS required within one month of hire
- Completion of PCA competencies within three months
This position requires the ability to:
- Push/pull/lift 50 pounds regularly
- Stand and walk for prolonged periods
- Frequently grip, bend, kneel, twist, and squat
These physical movements are essential for safe patient handling and care delivery.
