Overview:
Job Description:
Administer planned course of radiation therapy as prescribed by the radiation oncologist.
1.1 Greet each patient in a warm and compassionate manner as they are escorted to the treatment room, explaining the treatment procedure to the patient and addressing any questions or concerns they may have in a professional and caring manner.
1.2 Render proper care and comfort to the patient, when positioning and immobilizing patient, and utilize correct accessory equipment according to treatment plan.
1.3 Verify prescription, diagnosis and patient identification at first treatment with 100% accuracy in accordance with departmental policy and procedure of proper patient identification.
1.4 Before delivering each treatment, verify the prescription and verify the mechanics of the treatment plan 100% of the time in accordance with the treatment parameters outlined on the treatment plan to ensure proper delivery.
1.5 Can independently kv/kv image, cone beam image and mv image on a daily basis and ability to trouble shoot when problems arise.
1.6 Select and deliver the proper prescribed energy and dose according to the treatment plan with no more than 1 discrepancy per year, maintaining constant audio/visual contact with the patient, assuring privacy and dignity to each patient.
1.7 Perform the proper imaging procedure the first day of treatment and ensure that physician has approved images prior to treatment. Follow the imaging guidelines as prescribed by the physician and verify that images are reviewed by a physician daily.
1.8 Perform morning QA as assigned.
1.9 Participate in therapists' call rotation.
2.0 Participate in all annual mandatories, activities, and job training for new or updated software and equipment.
2.1 Ability to rotate between the different treatment modalities and retain functionality of each area.
2.2 Properly utilize Gating software during treatment process.
2.3 Follow SABR imaging process and treatment guidelines as layed out in SABR policy.
2.4 Follow SRS imaging process and treatment guidelines as layed out in SRS policy.
Evaluate and maintain patient information and records.
2.1 Verify accuracy of imaging prior to delivery of second treatment.
2.2 Record patient weight weekly, or as often as instructed by the physician or nurse.
2.3 Verify in patient manager that images are taken according to physician prescription.
2.4 Competent in the Cadence process of scheduling and entering patient information.
2.6 Keeps an accurate count of all the OTV finishers on the physician and physics task pad.
2.7 Provide transportation with the necessary information for the following days' in-patient schedule.
2.8 Participates in chart review weekly to ensure appropriate charge capture has occurred following departmental procedure.
2.7 Participates in weekly chart checks and verifies that all proper information is in the patients paperless chart.
2.8 Participates in purging of records and charts to storage as needed.
2.9 Competent in the Radiant process of entering patients for simulation.
3.0 Accurately scans patients documents into appropriate area.
Evaluate status of patients.
3.1 Accurately weigh patients on a weekly, or as instructed by physician, basis and record all weights on the patient treatment chart.
3.2 Ensure that patient is seen by the radiation oncologist no less than once per every five treatments.
3.3 Observe patient on a daily basis for radiation related side effects, reassuring patient in a compassionate, professional manner as to the cause and treatment of such side effects, and report clinical progress to the radiation oncologist in a respectful, professional manner.
Perform treatment simulation.
4.1 In a professional, courteous and compassionate manner, explain the simulation procedure and answer any questions the patient might ask.

Qualifications:
Education: Graduate of an approved program in radiation therapy.
Certifications: Registration in radiation therapy by the ARRT or registry eligible. Current BLS before assigned to care for patients independently. If registry eligible, must attempt registry within two months of employment and pass before six months post hiring date. All staff therapists shall submit a copy of their registry renewal prior to expiration date annually.
Other: Demonstrates competency in the area of radiation therapy.
Preferred Other: Good communication skills and ability to work with a diverse group of coworkers. Good computer skills.
