Overview:
The Patient Educator-Diabetes is responsible to use the Nursing Process to meet the needs of patients according to the profession standards of nursing care. Assures that the philosophy, mission, goals, objectives, policies and procedures of the Nursing Department and Mercy Hospital are followed.
The Patient Educator-Diabetes is responsible for the quality of care of a caseload of patients; delegates appropriately and directs staff in the delivery of care; assures responsibility for the appropriate utilization of resources; collaborates with medical staff and others in the provision of care; demonstrates positive interpersonal relationships with others in communication and problem resolution; is sensitive to the needs of patients, families, and fellow coworkers. The Diabetes Educator plans and provides for patients in accordance with age-specific needs; plans and provides for patients in accordance with any identified cultural diversity needs (such as religions, lifestyles, beliefs, physical capabilities, and cultures); plans and provides for patients by assuring appropriate and effective pain management; assess, report, and assist any patients that present with evidence of abuse and/or neglect; and supports the mission of Mercy. Co-workers are expected to abide by Mercy Hospital South safety and infection control policies to maintain a safe environment for patients and co-workers.
Qualifications:
- Required Education: Nursing Degree from an accredited school
- Preferred Education: Prefer BSN but ASN is acceptable
- Experience: Must be a registered nurse with a minimum of 5-7 years clinical experience.
- License: current RN license in our state of Oklahoma
- Certifications: Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association
