Overview:
Provides lactation support, education, and assistance to mothers and families. Initiates and maintains regular contact with mothers throughout the baby's hospital stay to help support their breastfeeding experience. Provides post-discharge outpatient care and services through coordination with Love Family's Women's Center and Outpatient Lactation Services. Serves as a clinical and education resources related to lactation or hospital co-workers. Works closely with staff to facilitate provisions of lactation support services and education throughout Mercy. Represents Mercy at community activities, outreach, and educational programs. Must have flexibility in scheduling to assure required contact with patients. Awareness of direct patient care activities for neonatal age groups to include assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Coordinates patient care activities with nursing and ancillary departments to optimize patient care and comfort. Functions within the scope of nursing preparation and consistent with the established guidelines of nursing practice, the goals of Mercy, the philosophy of the Sisters of Mercy, the State Nurse Practice Act, the Code of Professional and Business Ethics and the Employee Code of Conduct. Performs related duties as assigned. Performs duties and responsibilities in the manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.
We are high-paced, high-energy unit specializing in Obstetrics and Mother Baby, Well Newborn Care along Post Women's Surgical unit.
Within our unit we have :
- 40-MB rooms
- 15-LDR rooms
- 14-High Risk Antepartum
- 8-bed OBED unit
- 4-LIBC Birthing Suites
- 4-Pre Post Rooms
- 3-OR suites (where we circulate all of our own cases
Within our unit we also have Full time Lactation Consultants who see both inpatient and outpatients. Mercy OKC is the leading delivering hospital in Oklahoma City and second leading in the Ministry. Our teams offer a comprehensive suite of services at the Love Family's Women's Center.

Qualifications:
- Education: Graduate of an accredited registered professional nursing program
- Licensure: Is personally responsible for obtaining, and maintaining, a current RN license within the hiring state and/or compact licensure in which nursing duties are performed and must meet all state board of nursing requirements.
- Physical requirements/demands: Position requires individuals to push, pull, and/or lift 50 pounds on a regular basis. Position requires prolonged standing and walking each shift. Position requires the ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties
- Certifications:
- Certification as a Certified Lactation Consultant (CLC) must be obtained within two years of date of hire or transfer.
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) or successful completion of course within 30 days of hire
- Other unit specific certifications as required or acquisition of certification within department required timeframe.
