The Unit Receptionist works under the supervision of the Manager, House Supervisor, or Executive Director, and in accordance with established policies and procedures, performs a variety of skilled secretarial duties in support of Physicians, the nursing unit/department. The Unit Receptionist works under the supervision of the Manager, House Supervisor, or Executive Director, and in accordance with established policies and procedures, performs a variety of skilled secretarial duties in support of Physicians, the nursing unit/department. May be required to assume additional duties as needed. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values and Mercy Service Standards.
- Greets and acknowledges visitors, patients, physicians, co-workers, and ancillary staff coming onto unit. Assists with way-finding. Interacts and communicates in a manner that promotes a positive environment and enhances customer service.
- Answers the telephone in a timely manner and provides appropriate and accurate assistance to the caller, using appropriate telephone etiquette.
- Updates Nurse call system according to changes in staff assignments as reported by Charge RN's, Managers, or Staffing office representative. Recognizes limitations and seeks additional assistance if necessary.
- Assists with charge capture and reconciliation.
- Maintains cleanliness and organization of the Nursing stations. Maintains standardization of nursing stations and files. Maintains charts for admissions and discharges, sending records to medical records in a timely manner.
- Leadership is provided by participating in the PI process and identifying opportunities to improve patient care delivery, including collecting data, monitoring and implementing changes. Enhances learning opportunities for co-workers, and effectively contributes to the orientation of co-workers and students.
- Exhibits dependability by attending co-worker meetings and gemba huddles. Limits absences and tardiness in accordance to HR policy. Must report schedule changes to the staffing office.
Qualifications:
- Education: High School or GED. Unit receptionist orientation complete within 90 days of hire.
- Other: Excellent interpersonal, analytical and organizational skills. Must be able to operate various types of office equipment including computer, fax machine, telephone with multiple lines, printer, copy machine, and nurse call system. Must feel comfortable using computer software and EHR for reports and documents.
- Preferred Education: Secondary
- Preferred Experience: Previous secretarial/clerical experience within a healthcare setting.
