Description

A Senior Cloud Architect is a key technical leader responsible for the design, engineering, and operational oversight of the organization's cloud infrastructure across AWS and Azure. This role ensures the delivery of secure, scalable, and cost-effective cloud solutions while maintaining high system availability and performance. The architect collaborates with engineering, operations, and security teams to implement infrastructure as code, automate deployments, and enforce cloud governance standards. They also lead incident response efforts, monitor system health, and drive continuous improvement in cloud operations.  In addition, they influence technical staff in the design and operation of complex computing platforms and management of technology assets and serve as an escalation point of contact for the most complex issues and problem analysis.

This is a hybrid role and will require 3 days in the West Trenton Office.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Function as the Senior Cloud technical lead across both IT and business initiatives, acting as a subject matter expert to ensure that Cloud engineering efforts—including IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS—are aligned with NJM's strategic objectives and business goals. Provide technical guidance to senior leadership and act as a liaison between IT and business units to uphold cloud governance within a matrixed organizational structure. Ensure that all security, legal, compliance, service level are clearly understood and effectively implemented. Influence the design and operation of complex computing platforms and serve as the escalation point for resolving the most complex technical issues and conducting in-depth problem analysis the senior Cloud technical lead for both IT and lines of business initiatives. 
  • Act as subject matter expert on departmental projects to ensure Cloud engineering initiatives (IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS) are aligned with NJM strategic plan and line of business goals.  Advise senior staff on technical issues as appropriate. At a project level, serve as a liaison for lines of business to ensure cloud governance through a matrix organizational structure.  Ensure Security, Legal, Compliance, Service Levels and Data Retention requirements are understood and implemented.  Influence technical staff in the design and operation of complex computing platforms and management of technology assets.   • Serve as a subject matter expert in the adoption of next-generation cloud architectures and platforms (IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS), assessing enterprise and business line technology needs to develop strategies that align with NJM's objectives. This includes defining advanced cloud security defenses to protect NJM's data assets, creating enterprise and departmental roadmaps, and collaborating with senior leadership to prioritize initiatives in alignment with NJM's strategic plan and governance framework.
  • Define, plan, and implement new Cloud architectures and major technology patterns accordance with roadmaps.  Design technical solutions and the associated work breakdown structure so that tasks can be assigned to project staff for completion. Translate the cloud strategy and architecture into a highly accessible and secure technical implementation in accordance with best practices.   Provide project management expertise and guidance to the Information Technology and PMO departments for Cloud initiatives (IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS). Collaborate with developers and ensure that cloud-native workloads are deployed according to IT best practices for security, governance, identity and access management, and monitoring.
  • Ensure all documentation—such as cloud engineering designs, implementation plans, security and compliance documents, service call/change control records, work orders, and problem tracking tickets—is complete, accurate, and formatted using standard templates where available, for both archival purposes and cross-functional consumption.

Project Management Skills:

  • Project Management Skills: Assist in planning, executing, and finalizing IT projects within set deadlines and budget constraints. Support the acquisition of resources and help coordinate the efforts of team members and third-party contractors or consultants to ensure project goals are met.

Required Qualifications: Knowledge, skills & abilities, experience, minimum & desired education, certification and/or license requirements.

  • 10+ years of related Information Technology experience.
  • Proficiency and experience with Cloud engineering, and security infrastructure
  • Minimum of 7 years implementing cloud-based solutions utilizing AWS and Azure.
  • Bachelor's degree in IT related field or equivalent work experience required.
  • strong expertise in the Cloud well architected Framework and best practices.
  • Must be able to work across departmental lines with key stakeholders and business unit leadership.

Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience and credentials.

Pay Range: $141,107-$163,790
