Job Description:
We are seeking dependable laborers to support daily operations at the Charlotte Roadway Shop. This role is essential to maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work environment and assisting with the movement, handling, and preparation of materials and equipment used in railroad track and shop operations.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with all railroad safety rules and operating regulations
- Clean and maintain shop facilities, equipment, and surrounding grounds
- Move, sort, and stage materials, parts, and supplies
- Perform sorting and scrapping of parts and materials
- Operate motorized and mechanical equipment to support shop operations
- Assist skilled trades and shop personnel as needed
Equipment & Tools Operated:
- Forklifts
- Shop trucks
- Hoists
- Mechanical cleaning equipment
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Strong attention to safety and detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Physical stamina and reliability
- Basic mechanical awareness
Minimum Qualifications:
- 18 years of age or older
- Ability to safely lift, carry, and handle materials up to 50 lbs
- Ability to operate motorized equipment safely
- Willingness to perform physically demanding work
Work Environment:
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors
- Standing and walking for extended periods
- Shop and yard environment
- Work performed on and around equipment and materials
