Primary Purpose:

The Sweetener Market Manager is responsible for driving growth and protecting Norfolk Southern's 45,000-55,000 carload franchise. This role requires a strategic approach to managing and expanding our market share within the sweetener market, while ensuring alignment with the company's broader goals and objectives. The Sweetener Market Manager plays a crucial role in growing carload market share, maximizing profitability, and ensuring Norfolk Southern's continued success in a competitive market. They will help maintain our relationships with our shipping partners such as Domino Sugar, Coca Cola, Coors, Hershey, United Sugar, ADM, Primient, ED&F Man and Kraft-Heinz.

 

Principal Duties:

  • Market Leadership: Manage and enhance Norfolk Southern's position in the market by setting competitive pricing strategies and fostering strong, long-term customer relationships.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Monitor and analyze key performance indicators, interpret data trends, and report on market performance to inform decision-making and strategy development.
  • Sales Pipeline: Proactively find and assess new opportunities within the Sweeteners market to drive growth.
  • Capital Investment and Service Improvement: Identify and advocate for necessary capital investments and service enhancements to meet evolving market demands and encourage the transition of transportation modes to rail, ensuring Norfolk Southern remains a preferred partner in the sector.

 

Job Related Experience:

  • Minimum Level: 3 or more years of experience in or business-to-business (B2B) sales/marketing

 

Education and Preferred Majors:

  • Preferred Level: Bachelor's Degree (MS, BS)
  • Business – Marketing, Management, and Sales 

 

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Skilled in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables)
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize large, complex data sets and provide insights to advance business objectives
  • Project management skills, strong business acumen and leadership skills, with sound time management and attention-to-detail, and ability to be a self-starter and work independently
  • Process improvement skills, and project management skills for a cross-functional context
  • Ability to think analytically
  • Ability to present market and financial material for broad audiences, and ability to effectively influence stakeholders without direct authority
  • Ability to establish rapport and relationships with individuals at multiple levels internally and externally
  • Spanish speaking is a plus
