Description
At NorthBay Health, the Director of Accounting prepares consolidated financial statements and manages the monthly and annual financial closing process for multiple entities. Provides direct and indirect supervision of accounting teams. Assures compliance with regulatory requirements. The Director is responsible to direct and guide assigned department's leadership in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating all aspects of services delivered; ensuring quality programs, and a level of customer service that strives to exceed internal and external customer expectations. Responsible for evaluation, recommendation and implementation of policies and procedures within areas of control. Management responsibilities include: planning, directing operations, fiscal accountability, staffing and personnel management, staff development, and support functions to Senior Management. Facilitates effective communications and provides financial leadership consistent with System goals and values.
PRIMARY JOB DUTIES
- Leads monthly, quarterly and annual close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Oversees preparation of consolidated financial statements, analysis of budget variances and board reporting. Provides interpretation and recommendations relative to budget variance analysis.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, healthcare accounting standards, HCAI requirements and internal policy.
- Plans, coordinates, and manages the financial accounting functions. Supervises staff and support staff, oversees financial reporting systems.
- Reviews accounting processes and procedures to ensure accuracy and efficiency of accounting team entries, reconciliations and other functions.
- Coordinates external audit process. Oversees preparation of audit schedules for external auditors. Review schedules prepared by accounting teams.
- Manages the preparation of Medicare/Medicaid cost reports, HCAI quarterly and annual reports and other regulatory reporting.
- Fosters a culture of continuous improvement within the accounting teams through routine evaluation of processes, systems and procedures to identify areas for improved efficiency.
- Assists in the annual budget compilation, capital budget and forecast preparation as required.
- Administers the administrative and personnel policies of the System in a consistent and uniform manner.

Qualifications
Education: B.S. in Accounting or 8 years of experience as an accounting manager.
Licensure/Certification: CPA preferred.
Experience: Seven years progressively responsible healthcare finance experience; five years in a financial management position in a complex healthcare environment or three years in healthcare audit management capacity preferred. Extensive knowledge of hospital accounting and reimbursement principles. Experience with hospital information systems implementations preferred. Experience in Fund Accounting preferred.
Skills: Able to work effectively under tight time constraints. Must be able to analyze accounting and operational problems and be able to recommend viable solutions to those problems. Must be able to initiate procedural changes in response to changes in the external environment. Demonstrated ability to apply generally accepted accounting principles. Demonstrated ability to make appropriate independent judgments on subjective accounting estimates. Must be able to assess the reasonableness of the results of their own work. Demonstrated ability to work with ERP systems (Oracle preferred). Requires a high comfort level with taking initiative and responsibility, high energy and productivity and the ability to manage details in an organized work style. Must be able to manage time and changing priorities effectively

Hours of Work: Exempt. Days – full-time Monday through Friday. Start and end times and other hours of work are subject to business needs.
Compensation: $200k to $220k based on years of experience doing the duties of the role.
