
Description
At NorthBay Health, the HIM Audit Specialist conducts oversight and is central point person for all Recovery Audit Contractors (RAC) activities. Responsible and accountable for providing timely and accurate release of RAC requested patient information, proper documentation, tracking and RAC activity utilizing RAC tracking system and Microsoft office tools. Works closely with Patient Financial Services and Case Management. Prepares summary reports and provides data as required for reporting RAC activity. Coordinates the RAC Response team meetings. Processes release of information (ROI) requests for assigned units and audits. Verification of proper authorization using the hospital information system to locate electronic health information and entering releases into Correspondence Tracking system. Provides support and back-up coverage as needed for ROI. Makes routine decisions regarding verification of appropriate authorization, problem solving record locations, problem solving in customer service for internal and external department personnel. Prepares monthly statistical reports for reporting release of information metrics and maintains/updates the chart location/storage grid. Maintains the accuracy and consistency of the Enterprise Master Patient Index (EMPI) and associated electronic health records.

Qualifications
Education:
- AA degree preferred.
Experience:
- Three years of Hospital Health Information Management experience required in the past five years.
- Experience with personal computers and Microsoft applications including Excel, PowerPoint and Word. Experience with MS Project and Visio preferred.
Skills:
- Knowledge of medical terminology required.
- Knowledge of HIPAA rules and regulations, State and other federal release of information policies and procedures.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and comprehensive knowledge of state and federal chart completion and release of information requirements.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks at one time.
- Ability to analyze, understand and use statistical report data.
- Able to complete assigned duties in a timely manner and prioritize workflow to meet deadlines.
- Ability to multi-task and work on special projects.
- Ability to escalate issues to HIM management as required.
- Capable of mature and independent judgment.
- Demonstrate leadership skills and creativity in problem solving.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Hours of Work: Monday – Friday
Compensation: $33.05 to $40.18 per hour based on years of experience doing the duties of the role.
