Description

At NorthBay Health, the HIM Manager has responsibility and accountability for the day-to-day operational management of the HIM department of the following functions: release of information, transcription support, birth certificates, scanning, chart analysis/completion, electronic health record system support and on-going record review. Manages staffing and scheduling of employees, staff development, compliance with corporate, regulatory and professional standards and fostering of interdisciplinary, collaborative relationships among providers and staff.  This individual directly coordinates personnel activities such as hiring, training, conducting performance evaluations and disciplinary action.  Addresses and facilitates the resolution of patient complaints. Manages HIM operations with other NorthBay Healthcare departments, as strategically defined by leadership, and as pertinent to compliance with Title 22, TJC, HIPPA and other regulatory entities. Collaborates with the leader to enhance staff training, performance and process improvement.  Motivates team members to exceed departmental goals and objectives through constant team building practices.

Qualifications

Education:  Bachelor's in Health Information Management, Business Administration or health related field is required.  Associate Degree with 10 years of experience in HIM may substitute for a Bachelor's.

Licensure/Certification:  Certification by the American Health Information Management Association as a Registered Record Administrator (RHIA) or Accredited Record Technician (RHIT) is required or within one year of employment. 

Experience: Five (5) years' experience in acute care hospital. Four (4) years progressively responsible management or supervisory experience with at least three (3) years in the discipline. Active experience in implementing and supporting healthcare information systems. 

Skills:  Excellent oral and written communication skills and comprehensive knowledge of state and federal chart completion and release of information requirements.  Knowledge and experience with Personal Computers and computer systems.  Must have excellent organizational skills, be able to set priorities, work independently and be an effective leader.    Demonstrated ability to lead others in complying with policies and procedures.  Working knowledge of MS Word and MS Excel.  Knowledge of electronic and paper medical records; electronic health information trends & operations.  Past experience with 3M & Cerner HIM applications or equivalent systems required.

Compensation: $135K to $145K based on years of experience doing the role. plus, Bonus eligible
