Description

At NorthBay Health the OBGYN Hospitalist is responsible for providing comprehensive obstetrical and gynecologic care to patients in an inpatient hospital setting. This includes labor and delivery management, emergency OB/GYN services, triage, surgical interventions, and collaboration with other healthcare professionals to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care. The role emphasizes hospital-based practice.

We are a Baby-Friendly hospital and in case a baby needs extra support after birth, our level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is staffed with board-certified neonatologists. We are dedicated to one purpose: providing the best care for Mothers and babies, every step of the way.

Role and Responsibilities: 

Labor & Delivery Care

Manage and support patients in labor, including vaginal and cesarean deliveries.

Provide emergent obstetrical interventions as needed.

Gynecologic Emergency Care

Evaluate and treat gynecologic emergencies in the hospital or ER setting.

Perform surgical interventions, including D&C, laparotomy, or laparoscopy as indicated.

Patient Assessment & Triage

Respond promptly to obstetric and gynecologic emergencies.

Conduct assessments in OB triage and provide timely treatment or admission.

Collaboration

Work closely with anesthesiologists, neonatologists, nursing staff, and other specialists.

Provide consultations for hospitalists, ER physicians, and other medical staff.

Documentation & Compliance

Maintain accurate, timely medical records in compliance with hospital and regulatory standards.

Participate in quality improvement initiatives and peer reviews.

On-Call Duties

24-hour in-house 

Census : 135 average births per month (split amongst two physicians)



Qualifications

Education: Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree from an accredited medical school.

Training: Completion of an accredited OB/GYN residency program.
 

Certification: Board Certified/Board Eligible in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

 

Licensure: Valid and active medical license in California. Current DEA registration.

 

Certifications: NRP preferred.

 

Experience: At least one (1) year of experience preferred, though recent residency graduates will also be considered.

Skills:

  • Strong clinical and surgical skills in obstetrics and gynecology.
  • Excellent communication skills for patient education.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) and general computer skills.

Compensation: Employed model (W2) 1.0 FTE - Total Compensation up top $675,920 1st year
