Description

At NorthBay Health, the OB Sonographer in the Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) clinic is responsible for performing high-quality diagnostic ultrasound examinations for high-risk obstetric patients. This role supports providers by obtaining detailed fetal imaging and ensuring accurate documentation. The Sonographer embodies NorthBay's True North values by delivering compassionate, patient-centered care while maintaining excellence and integrity in all imaging services.

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES

  • Performs high risk obstetric ultrasound examinations in accordance with established protocols.

  • Conducts advanced imaging including anatomy scans, BPPs, Dopplers, and NT studies.

  • Assists and instructs patients prior to and during examinations.

  • Responsible for evaluating each study to ensure it meets required quality standards.

  • Responsible for patient confidentiality, safety and well-being during examinations.

  • Responsible for inspecting and cleaning equipment prior to and after each patient.

  • Collaborates with MFM providers and OB care team.

  • Reports all equipment failures and/or malfunctions to the Diagnostic Imaging outpatient supervisor.

  • Reports all patient complaints and discrepancies to the supervisor.

  • Other duties as assigned



Qualifications

Education: 

  • Completion of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program required.

Licensure: 

  • RDMS (Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer) required

  • OB/GYN specialty certification (RDMS-OB/GYN) required

  • Nuchal Translucency (NT) certification preferred

  • Current BLS certification required

Experience:  

  • Minimum 2 years of OB/GYN sonography experience required. 

  • MFM or high-risk obstetrics experience strongly preferred.

Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in obstetric ultrasound imaging

  • Knowledge of fetal anatomy, pathology, and high-risk conditions

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy

  • Ability to manage high patient volumes and urgent cases

  • Effective communication and documentation skills

Hours of Work: 

  • Based on business need; typically Monday through Friday, clinic hours
