Job Skills / Requirements

As an essential team member of the Occupational Health and Safety Department, our OH&S Claims Management and Recovery at Work Assistant will support the efforts of the department in reducing time lost from work related incidents while promoting health and safety in the workplace. You will be supporting employee health and safety claims across all provinces, supporting the claims management and Recovery at Work process, and reporting on health and safety statistics and trends.

You will support the branches across BC, Alberta & Ontario. As a national company, Paladin has operations in all provinces. A solid understanding of provincial OHS regulations would be considered an asset but is not required.

Responsibilities: 

  • Coordinate with injured workers and facilitate timely recovery at work by offering modified duties
  • Develop and implement comprehensive modified work offers tailored to workers' restrictions and site-specific requirements
  • Communicate with branches to obtain up-to-date availability of modified duty positions and ensure alignment with recovery programs
  • Collaborate with case managers to secure detailed case information and provide effective recommendations for claim resolutions
  • Proactively work to eliminate lost-time incidents and reduce annual workers' compensation premiums
  • Maintain accurate, secure, and organized records for all injury claims and ensure confidentiality
  • Track and analyze near-miss incidents, injury trends, and other safety metrics to inform strategic decisions and reporting
  • Maintain knowledge of workers' compensation statutes, regulations, and jurisprudence to apply to claims management
  • Monitor, assess, and audit compensation claims for legitimacy, injury trends, and cost control
  • Provide input on emerging trends, policy changes, or procedural developments impacting claims management and injury reporting
  • Draft and present reports on workers' compensation issues, including trends, challenges, and recommendations
  • Support the Coordinator in all duties related to the Claims Management & Recovery at Work Program for Paladin Security across all provinces as required
  • Communicate with the provincial Ministry of Labour regarding critical injury reporting to ensure compliance and effective resolution
  • Monitor reviews and appeals for claims and provide detailed recommendations for resolutions
  • Maintain an up-to-date Injury Claims document for all Injury Claims
  • Use analytics tools and advanced Excel functions (e.g., pivot tables, dashboards) to create detailed reports for management or clients
  • Support the implementation of procedures and programs for Safety and Health as required
  • Research and stay updated on new developments, policies, and technologies in claims management and workplace safety
  • Follow-up with COVID-19 related claims:
    - Complete contact tracing of suspected COVID-19 cases
    - Administering questionnaire and logging responses
    - Reporting results to employee's manager
    - Adhering to COVID-19 company policy and guidelines
    - Maintain communication with HR / H&S and managers
    - Educate employees of appropriate PPE

Requirements:

  • Experienced knowledge in OHS Legislation and OHS best practices
  • Must possess a High School Diploma. Post-secondary education or training in occupational health and safety would be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge and understanding, or willingness to learn provincial rules and regulations for OHS
  • Ability to interpret and explain regulations to others
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, as well as presentation skills
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Strong ability to assess data, identify trends, and make informed recommendations
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada

Salary: $45,000 - $50,000
