Physician shall have the authority and the responsibility to supervise and direct all anesthesia activities and operations of the Anesthesia Department at Piedmont Macon, GA, including the development and implementation of treatment protocols, responsibility for total quality control of anesthesia, services at the hospital, and the general supervision or all anesthesia staff and personnel rendering anesthesia services at the hospital.

• Overall responsibility for clinical oversight of anesthesia and related services at the hospital and serve as a consultant to other departments of the Hospital regarding anesthesia and related services.
• Oversee the training and competencies of Department staff who provide or support anesthesia services.
• Establish effective control, monitoring, and reporting mechanisms for the Department at the Hospital.
• Serve as an educational resource for the Hospital.
• Collaborate with Department management to develop appropriate staff coverage schedules for the anesthesia services required at the Hospital.
• Serve on all appropriate medical/administrative committees relating to the provision of anesthesia services.
• Monitoring and oversight of support staff to ensure the proper performance and conduct of anesthesia services.
• In collaboration with the lead CRNA/AA, ensure necessary supervision infrastructure is in place for all Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) providing anesthesia services at the Hospital, and provide clinical supervision of APPs if the responsible physician is unavailable.
• Overall responsibility and accountability for the Department meeting established performance standards.
• Interact and collaborate with the Medical, Support staff and Administration regarding issues of operations, quality, efficiency, and availability.
• Collaborate with administration, the support staff, and Medical Staff on the development of department policies and procedures for the hospital.
• Assist administration in the strategic and business planning process for anesthesiology services.
• Collaborate with administration and participate in the budgeting process.
• Collaborate with administration, medical staff, and support staff in meeting the requirements of regulatory agencies, accrediting organizations, and professional societies, including, but not limited to DNV, the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the Georgia Department of Public Health, and federal conditions of participation.
• Ensure compliance with all Piedmont Healthcare corporate compliance policies and procedures.
• In consultation with the Director of Perioperative Services, oversee the evaluation of the surgical program at the Hospital and its related processes, including but not limited to (1) assessing the need and participating in the revision or time appropriation and planning for the surgical program and (2) establishment and enforcement or medical and administrative policies and procedures (including those defining admission and discharge criteria and treatment protocols for the surgical program).
• Develop a plan and coordinate the schedule for a reasonable rotation system resulting from the evaluation and changes ensuring adequate participation by Department anesthesiologists in 24/7/365 coverage for surgical anesthesia services.
• Overall responsibility for scheduling anesthesia and support staff coverage.
• Assist the Hospital with the recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation of the Department's professional staff (physicians and non-physicians) and members of Hospital Medical Staff who are credentialed in anesthesiology and provide services at the Hospital: Make recommendations regarding the terms and condition of employment of the Department's professional staff who provide services at the Hospital: and make recommendations. regarding the extension or renewal or Medical Staff privileges to physicians in the Department who provide services at the Hospital.
• Design implement, and restructure as necessary, programs to ensure reasonable financial performance of the anesthesia component of services at the Hospital through effective utilization of physical and financial resources and responsible accounting, including budgets and internal controls.
• Maintain a knowledge base of current developments in anesthesia and associated services. planning and implementing developments as appropriate by participating. or being represented, in community, state, and national associations and professional activities.
• Establish and guide a high-quality array of anesthesia services that can effectively deal with the rapidly changing healthcare marketplace through appropriate organization and effective delegation of duties and responsibilities.
• Analyze and work directly with physicians and medical groups who provide surgical services at the Hospital relative to the strengths and weaknesses of anesthesia service performance. As well as surgical program development. Provide input to relevant physician recruitment and retention strategies.
• Develop timely communication strategies to inform physicians, customers, and staff about anesthesia developments.
• Provideregular feedback to Hospital and Physician Enterprise leadership in the functional areas regarding the performance or anesthesia services and the surgical program. Assist those individuals in decision-making as it affects anesthesia services and the surgical program. Perform other services as reasonably required by the Hospital, the Medical Staff, or the Physician Enterprise.
• Oversight of the use of Moderate Sedation in the hospital. including a review of all adverse events associated with Moderate Sedation. Provide quarterly reports of evaluation or reversal agents during Moderate Sedation.
• Participate in Hospital's Perioperative Governance Council and related subcommittees including, but not limited to First Case On-Time Starts/Blocks and Robotics.
• Participate in the Hospital's Trauma Program planning activities.
• Ensure all relevant parties participate in the debrief process before procedure closure.
• Responsible for overall daily management of the hospital's Operating Room Schedule Board.
• Provide direct clinical oversight of the Hospital's Post-Anesthesia Care Unit.
• Responsible for reviewing all anesthesia-related adverse events at the hospital, including providing necessary feedback to relevant parties so corrective actions are implemented quickly and effectively.
• Ensure compliance with all Perioperative Services policies including, but not limited to; Pre-procedure: ASA. Mallampati, history or adverse experience with anesthesia and/or sedation.
• Ensure that the needs of the Hospital are adequately represented at Piedmont Clinic's Clinical Governance Council {CGC) for Anesthesia, and ensure that all directives from the CGC for Anesthesia arc carried out timely and effectively at the Hospital.
