1 Shift: First Shift (United States of America) Summary: Performs a variety of routine and specialized laboratory tests and experimental procedures for the purposes of original research which generally are within a well-defined body of scientific knowledge and typically contribute to larger research efforts of independent investigators.

Manages pathology biospecimen acquisition, pre-analytical processing, and delivery for clinical research studies, following study specific requirements and departmental policy, to contribute to the scientific research and the development of new cancer therapeutics. Also analyzes clinical study documents to identify potential issues related to the collection of required biospecimens.

Demonstrates accuracy and attention to detail, ability to follow complex processes and manage workflows, critical thinking skills and when to consult with senior personnel.

Manages tissue request workflows, obtaining cases for review, placing processing orders, storing/retrieving and/or shipping as required by study documents

Utilizes analytical abilities to select pathology cases for review that meet study required disease type, stage, specimen age, etc., as required by study documents

Follows all written policies, procedures and study documents; doublechecks all work to ensure accuracy of biospecimen submissions, and to avoid study deviations

Maintains accurate billing records, compiles workload reports

Learns the organization, collection, and pre-analytical processing of fresh tissue for studies, to provide coverage for other laboratory personnel.

Familiar with general office software and/or develops the expertise needed, including Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Outlook and/or TEAMS; Adobe Acrobat/Pro

Utilizes Information Systems required to perform the duties of study biospecimen collection, including the Roswell EHR, Clinical Pathology System, Laboratory Information Management System, CRS clinical study management system, Sponsors' Specimen Tracking Systems, and departmental drive, folders and software.

Develops skills to analyze clinical research study documents as pertains to pathology biospecimens and pathology-specific subject eligibility criteria; documents any research issues requiring clarification by study sponsor and forwards these to the relevant CRS study start-up or regulatory personnel; determines if pathology requirements are covered by clinical departmental standard operating policies & procedure, referring any issues to the PNSR Research Pathologist to discuss with Clinical Pathology Department and PI, Path Co-I, or SRC committee; updates the CRLS study-specific guideline with pathology requirements from initial study documents and study amendments; serves as a resource for IIT protocol editors for the develop of pathology portion of internal studies, as requested.

Notes any issues that might affect patient safety or privacy, or that deviate from study requirements affecting data integrity, and brings to the attention of supervisor, study personnel, or other appropriate personnel for resolution.

Obtains and maintains necessary clinical research and biospecimen handling certifications, and laboratory safety training.

Salary range for this position is $57,247 - $72,203 annually which includes a comprehensive benefits package. Qualifications: Required Education and Experience

1. Master's degree and the equivalent of eighteen (18) months of full-time professional research experience in a laboratory, clinical or scientific research environment; or
2. Bachelor's degree and the equivalent of thirty (30) months of full-time professional research experience in a laboratory, clinical or scientific research environment.

NOTE:
Required degrees must have been granted by an accredited college or university or one recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center as following acceptable educational practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have the following skills/experiences:

  • Accuracy, attention to detail, able to follow written policies and procedures
  • Clinical Lab or Clinical Research Lab or other lab setting
  • Experience extracting information from medical records or other reports
  • Strong Customer Service/ Verbal & Written Communication Skills
  • Proficient in (Word/Excel)
  • 1+ Years Experience following information in Clin Research Protocols & Lab Manuals, especially in Oncology
  • Experience in Cerner Lab Information systems (Millenium or AP) and Sunrise EHR or equivalent, LIMS
  • Critical thinking skills
