SAIC is seeking a Flight Test Engineer in Huntsville, AL to provide Mission Planning support to NSWC Crane and the Multi-Service Advanced Capabilities Hypersonic Test Bed Program (Mach-TB) Program.  In this role, the candidate will assist program leadership with flight test planning, coordination, and post-mission activities, working closely with executive leadership, technology providers, and a variety of other stakeholders (service agencies, contractors, government national labs, warfare centers). The candidate will help facilitate coordination and integration between Program leadership and staff, their counterparts at Prime Contractor sites, Technology Providers, Launch Providers, and Test Ranges in support of test activities.

 

This position is located in Huntsville, AL and requires CONUS and OCONUS travel.

Job duties include:

  • Plan Mach-TB missions to meet Mach-TB Program and external stakeholder experiment requirements
  • Understand mission objectives and ensure test is planned and designed to meet objectives
  • Support mission architecture and test configuration meetings and activities
  • Understand overall mission strategy and employ system capabilities across classification domains
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders (National Labs, DoD and Service Agencies) to design and implement mission plans. Experiments must adhere to Experimental Payload User Guide  (EPUG)
  • Organize and participate in all technical and readiness reviews for Mach-TB flight tests including various technical working groups
  • Develop Test Plans and Mission Readiness Review artifacts. Present and obtain approval of that test plan through a series of reviews, including Range Safety meetings, test readiness reviews
  • Provide support for range coordination and planning activities, including range safety working groups
  • Provide input into test execution estimates to support Financial Team
  • Analyze and integrate geospatial data and technologies into the mission planning process

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Field and 5+ years of relevant experience.  (1+ years with supersonic/hypersonic or UAV systems)
  • Secret Clearance with ability to obtain TS SCI; Interim Secret needed to start
  • Understanding of DoD T&E process with Operational Flight Test Experience spanning range coordination, mission planning and reporting
  • Experience planning and executing complex missions, including developing mission profiles, target selection, and risk assessment
  • Knowledge of hypersonic vehicle design, flight dynamics, and testing procedures
  • Ability to produce a test plan and subsequent amendments; and present & obtain approval of that test plan through a series of reviews, including Range Safety meetings, test readiness reviews, etc, for a highly complex, integrated system or high-risk test project.
  • Knowledge of range coordination activities including UDS documentation development
  • Knowledge & understanding of the flight scheduling processes and procedures, including airspace, frequency allocation, chase aircraft requirements and usage
  • Knowledge of test instrumentation system and data acquisition systems methods, capabilities and operation 
  • Knowledge & understanding of data display requirements and the test monitoring and control facility coordination, setup and use
  • Experience using flight simulation software and tools for analysis and visualization
  • Basic knowledge & understanding of air vehicle software, including development and qualification processes; system redundancy; fault/failure detection & accommodation methods; and configuration control processes 
  • Experience with live telemetry data analysis and visualization
  • Experience applying knowledge of standalone and enterprise navigation, imagery, and geospatial data systems. 
  • Understanding of complex data technologies and related computer architectures supporting weapons system mission planning
  • Ability to work cross-organization coordination efforts and engage directly with senior DoD personnel and industry executives
  • Strong oral presentation and written communication skills. Candidate will need to lead high-level working group meetings and deliver briefings to top program leadership
