Description
SAIC has an opening for an organized and motivated Mechanical Engineer who is looking for an opportunity to grow with our company as we continue to expand our business into new and exciting market segments.
Work will be performed remotely with some travel required. The individual will be part of a collaborative team of engineers and support technicians working to bring projects from the early concept and design phase all the way through fabrication, system integration, and acceptance testing.
This position is contingent upon award news in May 2025.
The technical area of focus is undersea weapons, specifically MK54 Torpedoes. This includes MK54 torpedo propulsion, MK54 torpedo test and evaluation, MK54 torpedo support equipment and other continually evolving tasking.
The candidate will need a broad engineering skillset, well-developed work habits, an enthusiasm for the work, the willingness to get hands-on with the projects when required, an eagerness to learn new things, and the ability to work through challenging projects without extensive oversight. These projects will broadly include the updating of legacy designs to resolve obsolescence issues and enable the efficient manufacturing of complex and robust electromechanical systems. Modernization of existing test and support equipment as well as the development of new support equipment for both production and research and development (R&D) purposes. Designs are fully documented by the creation of three-dimensional (3D) models and two-dimensional (2D) drawings, schematics, interpreting and updating specifications, and the development of Technical Data Packages (TDPs). Systems have rigorous configuration management processes and systems and comply with NAVSEA Systems Engineering Technical Review (SETR) processes.
Candidates must demonstrate a history of excelling at multiple concurrent challenges and the ability to successfully work with people from a broad range of disciplines both in an office environment and on-site where the components are being fabricated or where they're going through final integration and test.
